Netflix looked into the adaptation of the video game Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerilla Games: from the first release details to rumors about the plot, we tell you everything we know about the next Horizon 2074 series.
In 2017, Sony released a new exclusive for its Playstation 4: Horizon Zero Dawn. The principle was simple, follow a young woman capable of distributing fairground potatoes to “wild” machines, all in a post-apocalyptic world. The game plays with the themes of pollution and technology, but above all presents Mother Nature 2.0, well protected by metal animals determined to do battle with disrespectful humans.
Faced with the success of this first opus, Sony then released a sequel, Forbidden West, pushing Aloy to migrate to the West to investigate a strange polluting plant. A sequel that introduced players to a much larger world, and even more packed with machines. And which also sold very well.
And while The Last of Us, another Playstation exclusive, convinced in series format for HBO, Horizon received the green light to be adapted in turn, this time at Netflix.

Green light for series adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn
On May 26, 2023, Sony confirmed that a series was in development, inspired by Horizon. To distance itself from Zero Dawn, the chosen title (probably provisionally) would then be Horizon 2074, according to Jeff Grubb.
Details are subject to change, but some speculate that Grubb might have meant “Horizon 2064,”which would more closely match the timeline presented in the games.
Is there a release date for Horizon 2074 yet?
There is currently no release date for Horizon 2074, as the series is still at a very early stage.

However, the writing phase started in 2024, which allows the creation process to begin in earnest. For the rest, we will have to wait for the series to go through many other pre-production stages before arriving at production. We will therefore have to be patient.
Horizon 2074 Cast: Who is in it?
Unfortunately, as the project is in the writing stage, there is no official confirmation for the casting to date. If fans of the video game would like to see Ashley Burch, the English-speaking voice of the heroine Aloy, nothing has been made official to date.

Horizon 2074 Plot Details: What is the Series About?
According to various reports, the Horizon 2074 series will be divided between two crucial moments: the dawn of the fall of modern civilization which triggers the events of the game, and the present time of Aloy’s world.
As for how much it will follow the events of the first game, it’s still a bit unclear. If we look at the events that created this new world, we see that there is plenty of room to present the series from a different angle than the games.
Horizon 2074 series team: Who creates the series?
Confirmation came in August, on Tudum, the Netflix information site: at this stage, it is Steve Blackman who will be at the helm of the series.
Steve Blackman is well known for his work on the series The Umbrella Academy, another Netflix hit and comic book adaptation.
At his side will be Michelle Lovretta, with whom he is used to working, and who has written for series such as Killjoys or Lost Girl.
And both seem to want to put Aloy, the heroine of the video games, into action, according to Blackman’s words: “It goes without saying that yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story. My writing partner, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to develop this remarkable story into a series, for all types of viewers.”
