Not long after PlayStation unveiled a trailer and official release date for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, the price of the original game saw a significant increase.
During the PlayStation State of Play event on September 24, several exciting announcements were made, including the release of free Astro Bot DLC and the unveiling of Ghost of Yotei, a sequel to Sucker Punch’s acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima.
Moreover, Guerrilla Games confirmed that the seven-year-old Horizon Zero Dawn would be receiving a remastered version for the PS5. Fortunately, for the owners of the original PS4 title, the upgrade would only cost $9.99.
However, a troubling discovery made by GamePittReviews on X revealed that PlayStation had surreptitiously raised the digital price of Horizon Zero Dawn on its storefront just a day later. While the price had long been set at $19.99/£15.99, it is now priced at $39.99/£34.99.
Oh PlayStation… I enjoy your platform but why do you have to counter good things with really bad ones?? They’ve secretly raised the price of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 from £15.99 to £34.99 – so you don’t grab the PS5 version for £25.99 once the upgrade goes live. Additionally, those who wish to purchase the remastered upgrade will see a price of $49.99/£45.99 if they do not own the original PS4 version. Prior to this price change, it would have only cost $29.99/£25.99 when factoring in the upgrade.
For many players seeking an enhanced performance and graphics experience, this remains a worthwhile deal, especially for those who haven’t yet delved into this highly-rated action-adventure RPG. If you’ve been holding off on buying Horizon Zero Dawn until the PS5 remaster was confirmed, there’s still a chance.
You might consider purchasing a used copy of the PS4 game from your local gaming store, with new physical editions typically priced at around $19.99 at retailers like GameStop or Walmart.
As this situation continues to unfold and the fan reaction develops, it’s important to note that this controversy is not the only topic of discussion following the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered trailer reveal.
Fans have voiced their concerns online regarding Aloy’s character model in the remaster, comparing it unfavorably to the original PS4 graphics, prompting a developer to address the backlash directly.
