Be prepared to witness a whole new side of Hugh Grant as the renowned actor takes on a terrifying role in A24’s Heretic.
One might wonder just how much faith can protect someone when confronted with a dangerous individual. This is the central theme of A24’s upcoming film, Heretic, which has caused a stir with its official trailer that introduces Hugh Grant as a seemingly kind man with hidden intentions.
The horror plot centers around two Mormon missionaries, both women, who embark on a journey to spread their faith to the people of a town. Despite facing numerous rejections, they eventually arrive at the doorstep of Grant’s character. He welcomes them inside to engage in a conversation about religion and faith.
Despite the comforting atmosphere of Grant’s home and his claims of his wife’s presence, the Mormons soon realize that something much darker is lurking within. The scent of a blueberry pie candle only adds to the unsettling experience as they discover that they have gotten more than they bargained for.
The premise of the game is straightforward – they must select a door: Belief or Disbelief. However, as the horror unfolds, will their trust in their beliefs be enough to carry them through?
Without a doubt, fans are thrilled at the prospect of Grant turning to the dark side.
“One fan expressed their excitement for Hugh Grant’s appearance in a horror movie, stating on X/Twitter, “I’m so ready.”Another fan shared their thoughts, commenting on X/Twitter, “If Hugh Grant is having a good time on screen, then I’m having a good time too.”
Another person chimed in, stating, “I never would have imagined Hugh Grant as a horror villain, but I’m definitely on board with this new direction in his career.”
It was also observed how refreshing it is to witness Grant exploring a new genre, in contrast to his usual typecast roles.
“Finally! Who would have thought I’d see Hugh Grant in anything other than a comedy?” they exclaimed. The actor is famously recognized for his appearances in Bridget Jones’s Diary, Notting Hill, Two Weeks Notice, and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, and he has most recently taken on the role of an Oompa Loompa in Wonka.
A24’s upcoming film Heretic will showcase the actor in a different role, challenging his image as a charming leading man from romantic comedies. This will be his first foray into the horror genre since his appearance in Ken Russell’s Lair of the White Worm in 1988.
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have written and directed Heretic, which does not currently have a release date. The film also features Chlose East and Sophie Thatcher from Yellowjackets in starring roles alongside Grant.
