Despite the puzzling and unsettling marketing strategy for Longlegs and the divisive debut of Late Night with the Devil, the horror genre has dominated discussions at the cinematic water cooler in the current year. And with numerous thrilling horror films set to be released in 2024, we have only just begun to explore the depths of this genre.
Undoubtedly, this year has been a treat for horror movie enthusiasts. From notorious murderers to the embodiment of evil, every iconic antagonist has received their fair share of the spotlight. However, in a widely circulated X post, fans have been casting their votes for the best horror movie of the year, and the outcome is resoundingly clear.
Despite being given Longlegs, Late Night with the Devil, MaXXXine, and The First Omen as choices for the top horror movie of 2024 (for fans of the genre, at least), the majority of participants quickly chose a clear winner. And surprisingly, it wasn’t Longlegs – The First Omen emerged victorious, at least for now.

The title of The First Omen makes it clear that it is a part of the well-established Omen franchise, serving as both a prequel to the original film and the sixth installment in the series.
In our own review of The First Omen, we also declared it as the “top horror film of 2024 thus far.”
The film has been a triumph, receiving praise from both critics and moviegoers, and currently holds an impressive 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

They also praised director Arkasha Stevenson for elevating the film into something truly exceptional, as well as Nell Tiger Free’s performance, which they described as “holy hell.”
