House of Dragon Season 3 Update Confirms Fans’ Worst Fears

Fans’ concerns about the release of House of the Dragon Season 3 were solidified by the latest update, indicating that we will have to wait for some time for the next installment of the series.

The second season of House of the Dragon concluded in early August 2024, as Team Green and Black prepared for the most violent climax of the Dance of the Dragons.

Despite the disappointment of fans no longer being able to follow their beloved warring family, their spirits were lifted with the news of a Season 3 renewal for the show.

Despite initial worries that a new season would not be released for at least two or three years, those concerns were confirmed when it was announced that pre-production for Season 3 will begin on October 31, 2024. Filming is set to begin in “earlyish 2025.”

Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal revealed to Variety that the third season was already in the works even before the Season 2 finale aired. They aimed to begin shooting in early 2025, although no specific production dates had been confirmed.

Fans were disappointed with the announcement of a delayed release date, with one user expressing their frustration on X/Twitter by stating, “It’s crazy to think that we have to wait 2 years for just 8 episodes when TV shows used to have over 20 episodes per season every year.”

One person responded, “If filming begins in ‘earlyish 2025,’ then we can anticipate the release of House of the Dragon Season 3 on our screens around ‘middleish 2026.’”

A third viewer highlighted the significant differences between the series and its previous season: “It’s worth noting that Game of Thrones consistently had a season premiere every year it was on air, except for Season 8. This is quite absurd.”

From 2012, Game of Thrones consistently released a new season every year until Season 7 in 2017. However, there was a two-year hiatus before Season 8 premiered in 2019. This delay was caused by an extended production timeline and complicated on-location filming, as reported by Vox.

Despite starting out with significant gaps between seasons, House of the Dragon followed a two-year release schedule, with Season 1 premiering in 2022 and Season 2 in 2024.

Despite the lack of an official explanation for the delays between installments in the series, a devoted fan stepped up to the plate to offer their insight on these gaps.

“I understand the need for the show to take its time in releasing new episodes, as the dragons look incredibly realistic,”they wrote. “The effort put into perfecting the art is commendable. However, it’s been quite a while and I think Stranger Things should finally release its last season.”
