House of the Dragon Actor Disagrees with Removal of Animalistic Scene

Actress Olivia Cooke, a star of House of the Dragon, expressed her disappointment that a particularly steamy bedroom scene was removed from the show despite prior criticism of the show’s sexual content.

Despite the main focus of House of the Dragon Season 2 being on revenge and grief, the Game of Thrones spinoff has not neglected the inclusion of the fantasy world’s iconic sex scenes. These scenes often feature characters riding dragons, engaging in intimate moments, or engaging in acts of violence. Perhaps one day, all of these elements will come together in a single scene.

Throughout Season 2, viewers have witnessed the intimate moments between Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), with the exception of one scene at a pleasure house. The dynamic between these two characters has sparked controversy due to their hypocritical actions during their encounters. However, Cooke has expressed regret over a passionate sex scene that was ultimately cut from the final version.

The actress described the scene as “messy as f**k”and “not beautiful,”which she found enjoyable. She also commented that it was “carnal and animalistic.”

Ultimately, the decision to remove the moment can be attributed to one of the primary criticisms of House of the Dragon’s sex scenes. Many fans have argued that these scenes serve no purpose and do not contribute to the development of the characters, which ultimately led showrunner Ryan Condal to eliminate it in the end.

“Cooke added that although Ryan had mentioned that they wouldn’t be learning more about the characters, she slightly disagreed with that statement. However, she acknowledged that it was ultimately his show and perhaps any additional character insights would be seen in the bloopers.”

The presence of sex scenes is an essential part of House of the Dragon, just like how Supes are crucial to The Boys or stress is integral to The Bear. Despite being surprised by the reduction of sexual content in this season, Cooke is satisfied with the quality of the existing scenes.

“Initially, I had expected there to be a lot more. However, I am pleasantly surprised that when it was used for me, it showcases Alicent experiencing pleasure. This is incredible and doesn’t feel unnecessary,”she explained. “It truly feels like we are telling a meaningful story.”
