Amidst the criticism of the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, fans are making one request for Season 3 to be “improved”- although not everyone is in agreement.
Instead of providing a bloody and climactic conclusion, the stage has been prepared for an epic showdown at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 8.
Tyland Lannister joined forces with Sharako Lohar, prompting Aegon to escape from King’s Landing. Meanwhile, the Lannisters and Starks, along with several other armies, readied themselves for the upcoming battle.
Instead of depicting any of the action, the finale abruptly concludes. With no Episode 9, viewers will have to patiently await the resolution in House of the Dragon Season 3.
The decision has received a lot of criticism, with some claiming that the finale was merely a “70-minute trailer”for the third chapter.
Despite facing unwarranted criticism, there is a growing number of fans who are advocating for the return of Miguel Sapochnik in order to improve Season 3.
Despite serving as co-showrunner for House of the Dragon Season 1, the Game of Thrones executive producer and director ultimately left the HBO spinoff before Season 2. Rumors suggest that his departure was due to the studio’s decision not to retain his wife, Alexis Raben, as a producer.
Regardless of the circumstances, fans are eager to see him return. One individual expressed on X/Twitter, “I believe that if Miguel Sapochnik had remained, Season 2 would have been significantly improved. He did a fantastic job with Season 1.”
One person expressed, “Regardless of what happens with Season 3 of HOTD, they must find a way to have Miguel Sapochnik direct at least one battle. I understand he has stated he is finished with Thrones, but his vision was sorely missed this season. Offer him any amount and make it happen!”
“After completing HOTD, Miguel Sapochnik was asked by a third person if he was absolutely sure he was finished, to which a fourth person added their own comment expressing the desire for Sapochnik to return.
Despite this sentiment, there are some who disagree. In a discussion on Reddit, one user stated, “Why is there suddenly a belief that Sapochnik’s departure was responsible for all the flaws in Season 2?”
Many of the criticisms of the season revolve around its writing. Miguel Sapochnik, as a director, would have had minimal control over the scripts and the overarching narrative of the story.
The statement was made that Miguel Sapochnik directed only four out of the 75 episodes of GoT. These four episodes did not come from the first four seasons, which were considered the show’s peak.
“Out of the four episodes, two were considered by many to be the worst of the show. Despite some viewing him as a GoT-Messiah, he does not live up to that title in the eyes of others.”
“I acknowledge that people are searching for explanations as to why Season 2 of HoTD was underwhelming, but Miguel Sapochnik’s absence is not the sole reason.”
“It is especially evident that the combination of last minute shortening by two episodes and the writers strike is the most logical and probable explanation.”
