House of the Dragon Showrunner Confirms Which Twin Wins Fight in Episode 2

The second episode of House of the Dragon concludes with a chaotic battle between the distant Cargyll siblings, but fortunately, showrunner Ryan Condal has officially announced the victor. Caution: spoilers ahead!

Despite the potential confusion for House of the Dragon viewers, the Cargyll twins’ identities are crucial to the plot as they engage in a lethal battle against each other. In Season 2 Episode 2, Criston Cole orders Arryk to infiltrate Dragonstone and assassinate Rhaenyra, leading to a showdown between the two brothers.

Despite his attempt to continue, Erryk intervenes just in time, resulting in a chaotic swordfight between the twins. While one brother emerges victorious, it is difficult to determine the outcome of the battle between Erryk and Arryk. Fortunately, Condal arrives and clarifies the situation.

During a roundtable in New York [via Decider], it was confirmed that the last survivor at the end is Erryk, who ultimately falls on his sword. This revelation explains how the queen knows who the infiltrator is when Erryk addresses her as “Your Grace.”It is Arryk who has died, along with the infiltrator, leaving Erryk as the only remaining twin.

As a result, fans can rest assured that Erryk (Team Black) emerged victorious. The battle was a swift and brutal affair, intensified by the opposing views of the brothers on which Targaryen should rule the Iron Throne. Notably, the real-life brothers themselves fought in the epic clash.

According to Condal, the actors and performers are truly impressive. They took on the entire scene by themselves, putting in the effort to master the choreography taught by Rowley Irlam, the stunt coordinator. The fact that they performed the entire fight sequence without any assistance is both unbelievable and emotionally impactful.

The challenge of distinguishing between the brothers is not limited to House of the Dragon viewers.

“To recall correctly, Arryk, or ‘A,’ is associated with Aegon while Erryk, or ‘E,’ corresponds to Elliott Tittensor,”he clarified.

It can be quite difficult to distinguish between them. Elliott’s arms are covered in tattoos, which is not a problem when they are not in their costumes. However, once they put on their costumes, it becomes nearly impossible to differentiate between them. Despite this, I was eventually able to do so and I felt a great sense of accomplishment.
