Despite the implementation of the dragonseed plan, fans of House of the Dragon have not failed to notice the missing character. However, the show hints at the possibility of her being substituted with someone already familiar to us.
For some time now, fans have been eagerly anticipating the appearance of Nettles. As a young dragonrider who becomes involved in a questionable romance with Daemon at Harrenhal, she is one of the most captivating and untamed bastards among the group.
Despite nearing the end of Season 2, Nettles’ whereabouts remain a mystery. However, speculation among fans has arisen due to the hints of a mystery dragon in the Vale, leading to the possibility of Nettles being replaced by none other than Rhaena Targaryen.
In recent episodes, Rhaena’s fixation on the elusive dragon lurking in the Vale has grown. In Season 2 Episode 7, she impulsively sets out to find it after witnessing the scorched devastation it has caused.
The presence of clues, in the form of crispy lamb carcasses, strongly suggests that this dragon is likely Sheepstealer, Nettles’ dragon. If Rhaena is the one who ultimately claims Sheepstealer, it would mean that she is taking Nettles’ place in the TV show.
Despite Rhaena not having claimed a dragon yet, it is still possible for her to do so. However, there are some who are not in favor of the idea of replacing Nettles with another person.
According to a post on Reddit, one user expressed their concern: “I hope the rumors are false. Rhaena and Nettles are completely different characters and each deserves their own story. Nettles comes from the lowest social class.”
Despite Rhaena’s privileged upbringing as a member of the Royal family, she should not be considered interchangeable with someone like Rhaena, who had to struggle and do unpleasant things to survive as a homeless individual. Being black women on the show does not erase their vastly different backgrounds and experiences.
“Another contributor remarked, “Nettles, along with Addam, was one of the most intriguing dragonseeds. Her actions ultimately undermined Daemon’s belief in Targaryen exceptionalism and played a crucial role in both his and Rhaenyra’s downfall.”
“One user pointed out that it was a terrible decision, stating their love for Nettles and belief that Rhaena deserved her own storyline. They also noted that Sheepstealer, like all dragons, was active on Dragonstone.”
The issue with Morning also arises in the books, as Rhaena eventually forms a bond with the dragon that hatched from the egg she received upon her arrival in the Vale. However, as one user points out, there may be a possible explanation for this as well.
“It was predicted that Sheepstealer would meet his end either in Second Tumbleton or the Battle Above Gods Eye. However, it was believed that Rheana would survive and return to the Vale, either to the Vale army or the Vale itself. It was also said that she would eventually learn of one of the eggs hatching.”
Despite having only one episode left, there is still a chance that Rhaena will acquire Sheepstealer in the finale of House of the Dragon Season 2. This will provide further insight into whether Nettles will continue to play a role in the show.
