As the conflict of the Dance of the Dragons continues, fans of House of the Dragon find themselves embroiled in their own internal battle as they critique Season 2.
Despite the tumultuous ending of Game of Thrones, the response to Season 1 of House of the Dragon was surprisingly tranquil. Fans were relieved and satisfied that the show was not only enjoyable, but also exceptional.
Although Season 2 has received widespread praise from critics, it has faced criticism from viewers for its pacing and deviations from George R.R. Martin’s original source material.
The author subtly acknowledged his own issues with the series in a lengthy post discussing dragons, which coincided with the release of Episode 6 that hinted at the appearance of a dragon in the Vale. The episode also depicted a kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria, leading to expected negative reviews online.
It’s not slow, you’re just impatient byu/branman887 inHouseOfTheDragon
Branman887, a member of the House of the Dragon subreddit, responded to criticisms about Episode 6 being “boring” and “lacking in action” by providing a list of 11 events. These developments included Seasmoke declaring Addam of Hull as its rider and Rhaenyra weakening the Greens by sending food across the bay.
“The post has garnered over 1,000 comments so far, with someone writing, “It’s not slow, you’re just impatient.”
“Can we all agree on how terrible Game of Thrones Season 8 was? The dialogue alone was absolutely atrocious, it’s not even worth comparing.”One fan expressed, with another responding, “The reactions to Season 2 are just too exaggerated, man.”
On the other hand, someone else contended that the slow pace of the performance mirrors the dramatic nature of theater acting, with its exaggerated physicality and emphasis on line delivery. They believed that this approach was fitting for the complexity of the story, but also felt that the excessive length of the play could have been better utilized to delve deeper into the events and characters.
“One user pointed out that the dialogue lacks captivation, the characters lack depth, and the episodes seem to follow a repetitive formula. They specifically mentioned Daemon’s ongoing plot at Harrenhal with Alys Rivers.”
Similarly, Fire and Blood has undergone significant alterations. The events surrounding Blood and Cheese have played out in a slightly different manner, and we have yet to encounter Daeron Targaryen. Maelor has not yet entered the picture, and it seems that Nettles’ role will be omitted in order to focus on expanding Rhaena’s storyline.
Despite my love for GRRM’s books, I acknowledge that his writing has its flaws and limitations. Therefore, I am not overly critical of the changes made to Fire and Blood, as expressed by one user who stated, “I’m not complaining all that much.”Another user shared their excitement for the show’s ability to fill in the gaps, but also admitted to feeling impatient while watching in anticipation for the next major event.
