A content creator on YouTube successfully deceived Apple into believing their iPad was located in the EU and was able to install Fortnite. Nevertheless, Apple promptly issued a patch to fix this vulnerability.
Last week, Epic Games revealed the launch of its app market for iOS in the EU, which allows for the reinstatement of Fortnite on iPhones and iPads. However, the game is still unavailable for installation in regions such as North America and the UK.
Despite the fact that the game is not officially available in the UK, YouTuber Saunders Tech discovered a workaround that allowed him to access it in this region.
The YouTuber successfully circumvented Apple’s EU region lock by utilizing their iPad. They achieved this by setting up a router with a VPN connection and creating a Swedish Apple ID solely for the purpose of downloading Epic’s battle royale game.
Afterward, the individual proceeded to download and install 3uTools on their Windows PC. For those who may not be familiar, 3uTools is a no-cost program for Windows that enables users to manage their iOS device and also offers support for flashing and jailbreaking.
After disconnecting the iPad from the PC, it was factory reset and then meticulously set up with all the required configurations.
After sideloading the VPN and setting up the Swedish Apple ID on the iPad, Saunders Tech then proceeded to access the Epic Games Store. Upon completing the required steps, they successfully downloaded Fortnite from Epic Games.
Apple fixed the exploit in 24 hours
According to Saunders Tech’s X post, Apple has fixed the exploit within 24 hours of their video being released. As a result, they are now encountering an error when attempting to install Fortnite.
According to the YouTuber, Apple was quick to respond to the issue and released a server update within 24 hours. The updated system now requires the IP used during the initial sign-in to match the IP used after entering the 2FA code. Any discrepancies between the two will result in an error message.
If you wish to play Fortnite on iOS outside of the EU, your choices are restricted. You can either attempt to use a decrypted IPA file, readily available on the internet, or obtain a paid developer account (priced at $99 per year).
