During the CoD Next event, we were able to get a detailed preview of Warzone’s latest map, Area 99, before it is released in Black Ops 6 Season 1. If you’re curious about its size in comparison to other maps in the game, we have the details for you.
The most recent Resurgence map delves into the origin story of Nuketown, a highly recognizable destination in the entire Call of Duty franchise. It includes various points of interest, including Nuketown Shipping and Mannequin Assembly, but some players have voiced worries about its size.
Therefore, we have all the information regarding the size of Area 99 and its comparison to other Warzone maps.
Area 99 Map Size in Warzone
During the CoD Next livestream, the devs confirmed that the size of Area 99 will be comparable to that of Rebirth Island. Although an exact measurement is not yet available, it is said to be very similar to the estimated 152,865 m² of the original Resurgence map.
The main focus of Resurgence is to keep players constantly engaged in battles without prolonged breaks, which results in smaller and more condensed maps compared to the main BR battlegrounds. Lead Level Designer, Brittant Beildleman, stated that the goal of creating Area 99 was to bring the fast-paced and intense gameplay of Nuketown to Warzone, which accounts for its smaller size.
Despite the similarities in scale to Rebirth, the new map also provides an added level of verticality with numerous tall buildings. Additionally, the Reactor located in the center extends deep into the ground and is connected to a complex network of tunnels, giving the impression of a densely packed and intricate area despite its small size.
Each POI explores how Nuketown is created.
How big is Area 99 compared to other Warzone maps?
- Al Mazrah (7,095,838 m²)
- Caldera (6,405,025 m²)
- Verdansk (5,835,157 m²)
- Uzbekistan (5,676,670 m2)
- Vondel (2,457,056 m²)
- Fortune’s Keep (240,790 m²)
- Ashika Island (222,002 m²)
- Area 99 (TBC)
- Rebirth Island (152,865 m²)
According to map size estimates by Warzone specialist JGOD, Area 99 is potentially either the smallest or second-smallest map in the game so far. Currently, Rebirth Island holds the title for the smallest map, so if the new map is indeed very similar in size, it could either take its place or rank just one spot above or below when it is released.
Despite Rebirth’s size, it is unlikely to match the scale of other Resurgence maps such as Ashika Island, Fortune’s Keep, and Vondel. These maps are considerably larger than Rebirth, with Vondel being the biggest Resurgence map to date and giving off the sensation of a condensed Battle Royale arena.
While Resurgence is focused on providing fast-paced action, it will not be comparable in size to maps such as Verdansk, Al Mazrah, or Urzikstan. These maps are specifically designed to offer a distinct gameplay experience. Unlike Resurgence, which allows for a high number of players in each match, BR must provide enough room for players to take breaks between fights.
It should be mentioned that the developers have not made an official statement regarding the sizes of all the maps, so the areas mentioned earlier are only approximate. Nevertheless, we can still use them as a basis to gauge the expected size of Area 99.
The inclusion of this new map is not the sole addition expected in Warzone alongside Black Ops 6. The update will also introduce various improvements for players’ convenience and eliminate the backpack looting feature.
