How did the sons of drug lord Griselda Blanco die?

New Netflix series Griselda is now available to stream – but how did the ‘cocaine godmother’s’ sons really die?

The world of narcotics has returned to screens in the form of a new six-part miniseries from Netflix, Griselda. Reconstructing the Colombian drug lord’s reign and cocaine trade in 1980s Miami, the series follows why Griselda Blanco initially fled her homeland, and the aftermath that followed.

The performances of the actors and the point of view adopted have been praised by critics, yet members of Griselda Blanco’s family have given their voice: they contest the production of the series and even seek to file a complaint.

A question then arises for spectators watching the drama and after watching the biopic series on the streaming giant: what happened to the children of the “cocaine godmother”? We tell you everything we know about how Griselda Blanco’s sons died.

How did Griselda Blanco’s sons die?

Of Griselda Blanco’s four sons, three died – leaving one survivor, Michael Corleone Blanco.

Blanco’s three other sons – Osvaldo or “Ozzy”, Dixon and Uber – were all killed before their mother’s death in 2012.

The deaths are covered in the Netflix limited miniseries: Dixon was targeted while walking back to his car, Ozzy was approached and killed in a nightclub, while Uber was killed in Colombia during of a drug transaction.

Michael Corleone Blanco – named in homage to the film The Godfather – is the only surviving son among Griselda Blanco’s children, and he does not like the broadcast of the series.

According to a Rolling Stone report, he filed a 10-page motion claiming the streaming platform stole his “private artistic literary work” after two former partners allegedly passed the collected information to Netflix without his consent.

The creators of Griselda have since responded to the birth of the lawsuit, telling ET that it was not “their first rodeo”: they had in fact had to face similar situations for two other series which they are behind. originally, Narcos and Narcos Mexico.

Already in 2020, Michael Corleone Blanco told the Mirror about Griselda: “My mother was not a saint. She had to survive to do her business. But at the end of the day, she was my mother. I will always honor and respect her. I love it.”

Griselda Blanco herself was killed in Colombia in 2012 in a drive-by shooting, by an unknown assailant on a motorcycle.

After a long prison sentence for conspiracy to manufacture, import and distribute cocaine – and later for second-degree murder – Blanco returned to Medellín in 2004 under the pretext of health problems: she had suffered a heart attack two years before. Griselda was last seen in public in 2007.

The biopic series Griselda has been available on Netflix since January 25, 2024.
