Elden Ring is an absolutely massive game, with games that could last over 80 hours. So how long is Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?
The Elden Ring DLC has finally received a trailer and Shadow of the Erdtree looks to be an epic and fitting addition to the game. Excitement is through the roof and it looks like the best is yet to come.
Players have been combing through the Elden Ring DLC trailer to find every possible detail. Hoping to piece together the mystery of Messmer the Impaler or prepare for Deadneath Swamp.
One detail many are hoping to learn is how much time they can expect to spend in the game’s new zone, the Shadowlands. Here’s what we know about how long Elden Ring DLC will last.
Hidetaka Miyazaki himself stated that Shadow of the Erdtree takes place in a new area “comparable to, if not larger than, the Limgrave area of the base game.”This large new area is known as the Shadowlands and will require the player to teleport to access it.
The Shadowlands is separate from the vast lands between and will have its own distinct map. In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki confirmed that the structure of this new area in the Elden Ring DLC will be very similar to the areas in the base game.
It will include “open field maps, with large-scale heirloom dungeons, and also small to medium-scale heirlooms”according to Miyazaki. With such a breadth of content, you can expect to spend quite a bit of time in the Shadowlands. But how much?
How many hours of gameplay to complete the Elden Ring DLC?
The exact duration of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has not yet been revealed. Obviously, it’s always a bit difficult to pin down the exact length of any video game campaign, but there’s room to speculate.
Since Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s biggest game to date, the developer has confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree is their biggest DLC. Originally planned as two separate expansions, they were merged into one cohesive product.
Looking at Dark Souls 3, the Ashes of Ariandel DLC takes around seven hours to complete in its entirety and the larger Ringed City DLC takes between 10 and 13 hours. Shadow of the Erdtree has been confirmed to be larger than both, so we know that the low estimate could potentially exceed those two combined.
Shadow of the Erdtree’s price also gives an indication of what we can expect in terms of length and quantity of content. The Elden Ring DLC is priced at €39.99, almost twice the launch price of the Dark Souls 3 Season Pass which included two expansions.
FromSoftware is known for its consumer-friendly practices and has a reputation for overdelivering on value. If Shadow of the Erdtree costs more than two Dark Souls DLCs, it’s because the developer thinks it’s well worth that price.
That’s all we know about Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree duration at the moment. We will update this article with any new information giving us a more concrete idea.
Keep in mind that any estimate depends on how many times you die.
