Players were once again reunited with Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 3’s campaign as they took on the infamous Makarov. However, the game received criticism for its time to beat.
The campaign was released prior to the full launch of MW3, building upon the storyline of MW2 and introducing new Open Combat missions and unlockable rewards. While Call of Duty’s single-player campaigns are typically short yet action-packed, this particular one faced significant backlash for its brevity.
At the 2023 Game Awards, Christopher Judge, the voice actor for God of War, made a lighthearted joke about the length of the campaign in MW3, quipping that his acceptance speech was actually longer. However, the question remains: just how short was the MW3 campaign in comparison?
Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Length and Time to Beat
The campaign in Modern Warfare 3 can be completed in approximately five hours on Regular difficulty, making it the shortest campaign in the Call of Duty series. The duration may differ depending on the selected difficulty level, and players can spend extra time trying to obtain all achievements and uncover hidden secrets.
In comparison to MW2’s 17 campaign missions, there are 15 missions to complete, making it slightly shorter by a few hours.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the developers at Sledgehammer were required to complete the campaign for the game in just 16 months, which is half the time it took for previous versions. According to Jason Schreier, the developers initially believed they were working on an expansion for Modern Warfare 2 until they realized much later in the process that it was a standalone game.
Nevertheless, Aaron Halon, the studio head of Sledgehammer Games, countered: “We have put in a lot of effort to bring this vision to life, a process that has taken years. Any statement suggesting otherwise is completely false – this is our game and we are eagerly looking forward to playing it with all of our fans online.”
Black Ops 6 will release its highly anticipated campaign on October 25, serving as a continuation of BOCW and featuring flashbacks from the 1980s, similar to BO2. While the length of the campaign is currently unknown, it is worth noting that Cold War had the second-shortest campaign in the Call of Duty franchise, clocking in at approximately five and a half hours. However, with BO6 having a much longer development cycle, fans can expect a significantly longer and more immersive campaign experience.
