On April 14, 2021, Respawn revealed that Apex Legends had reached a milestone of 100 million players overall. The recent launch of the game on Steam and Nintendo Switch greatly contributed to this achievement.
In the February 2022 earnings call, EA announced that monthly active players in Apex had increased by over 30% compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
“The year of FY 2022 has proven to be the biggest yet for Apex, with a significant increase of over 28 million new players and the introduction of new seasons and in-game events that have consistently provided fresh experiences for the committed community.”
Although the specific number was not disclosed, we can estimate that approximately 130 million players have played the game since its release.

Despite being the only platform that provides live player count data, Steam experienced a decrease in average player count during the latter half of 2023, as we will delve into in the following section.

The average number of concurrent players on Steam in April 2024 was 166,626, with additional players expected to be on console, Switch, and PC through the EA App. This will result in a significantly higher overall number of players.
Out of all the platforms, only Steam provides accurate player count statistics that can be accessed through their API. Other platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, EA App, and Nintendo Switch, do not disclose their player numbers.
In November 2020, Apex Legends was released on Steam and saw its highest number of players at over 620,000 during Season 16.
