James Gunn has recently shared insights regarding the much-anticipated post-credits scenes in his upcoming Superman film. He acknowledges a lesson learned from his earlier work with Marvel, hinting at a significant shift in his approach.
With the release of the first trailer for Gunn’s Superman, fans have a clearer picture of what to expect. Not only do we see Clark Kent sporting his iconic curly hair, but we also hear a thrilling score that blends John Williams’ classic theme with fresh compositions by John Murphy.
The trailer has generated mixed reactions among fans, sparking discussions about Gunn’s unique understanding of the Superman character compared to past adaptations, particularly Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
James Gunn Provides Insight on Superman’s Post-Credits Scenes
During a recent event to preview the trailer, Gunn was asked about the inclusion of post-credits scenes. He explained to Brandon Davis, “Sort of. If you look at my credits scenes on the Marvel movies, the one time I f*cked myself was when I put Adam Warlock in because then I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t, now I gotta put Adam Warlock in the next movie.’ Which was actually a pain in the ass.”

While Gunn successfully incorporated Adam Warlock into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he expressed concerns regarding the trend in superhero films to prioritize future setups at the expense of coherent story arcs.
Gunn further elaborated, stating, “I’m not gonna set up whole universes with end credits scenes. I love giving audiences who sit through all of the credits end credits scenes, but I’d rather it be something that’s fun for the fans and not necessarily, ‘Hey, we’re setting up the whole next part of the universe.’”
He added, “Because I know how it goes and I know what it’s like, and it’s like you think of the best credits scene, but then you gotta adhere to that down the road.”
In summary, fans can anticipate post-credits scenes in the new Superman, but they will focus more on entertainment rather than intricate setups for future films. Expect a tone akin to the charming tag scenes found in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series.
