“Black Out” is a riveting television series adapted from the acclaimed German novel “Snow White Must Die” by Nele Neuhaus. The storyline follows Go Jung-woo, portrayed by Byun Yo-han, who has been wrongfully convicted of murder, sentenced to 10 years in prison for a case shrouded in mystery, where the victim’s body remains undiscovered.
In the climactic final episode of MBC’s popular Friday-Saturday drama “Black Out” , the identity of the true culprit was unveiled, culminating in Go Jung-woo’s exoneration and his reintegration into society.
This gripping episode featured Hyeon Gu-tak (Kwon Hae-hyo), who, after overhearing Hyeon Su-oh (Lee Ga-seop) muttering to himself in a warehouse, discovers the lifeless form of Da-eun (Han So-eun). Overcome with emotion, Hyeon Gu-tak attempts to shield his son from the consequences of his actions.
In a pivotal moment, Go Jung-woo arrives in the village and encounters Hyeon Su-oh nearby. After a tense confrontation, Jung-woo proceeds to the warehouse where Da-eun’s remains were discovered.
Despite attempting to rationalize his actions, Hyeon Gu-tak ultimately assaults Jung-woo and attempts to incinerate Da-eun’s body, but Jung-woo intervenes just in time to rescue him from the flames.
Subsequently, Jung-woo’s innocence is reaffirmed in court, with the judge declaring a lack of evidence: “The previous ruling is overturned. The plaintiff is found not guilty, and the verdict is made public.” Detective Noh Sang-cheol (Ko Jun), who is intricately involved in Jung-woo’s case, offers his congratulations and urges him to embrace a new normal in life.
Later, Jung-woo resumes his studies at medical school, strolling across campus and greeting his classmate Ha-seol (Kim Bo-ra). Reflecting by the seaside, Jung-woo muses, “Dad, Bo-young, Da-eun, Geon-oh, please continue to watch over me. Even now, observe how I live until my end. I miss you dearly, and I love you.”
Moreover, the final episode achieved impressive nationwide viewership ratings of 8.8%, with metropolitan areas recording 8.2%, peaking at 9.1% for individual minutes. This nationwide rating set a new record for the series, marking a successful finale (according to Nielsen Korea).
