Advance through the game until you reach the conclusion of Chapter 2. You will then have to choose between Embracing or Defeating the Frost. This decision will dictate your journey along one of two unique paths, each equipped with its own set of technologies and research opportunities.

To unlock access to Steam, you must choose to Embrace the Frost.

Continue your quest until you survive the Whiteout and face the choice to either Settle or Salvage Winterhome. Opting to Settle will allow you to utilize the resources available, whereas Salvaging will destroy it to extract the cores from its Generator. Keep in mind the hazardous terrain. Winterhome frequently experiences bursts of poisonous gas, and the area remains toxic until you establish designated districts to manage these hazards. Also, exercise caution when using Rapid Frostbreaking, as this can injure or incapacitate your Colonists, hindering their ability to work effectively.
