How to beat Arlo in Pokémon Go – Guide January 2024

The leaders of Team Go Rocket are back in force in Pokémon Go. We explain how to easily get rid of Arlo in January 2024.

The leaders of Team Go Rocket are formidable opponents, armed with a veritable arsenal of powerful Pokémon that you must overcome.

After sending a first Pokémon which will always be the same, Arlo will be able to rely on a second and a third monster chosen randomly from three possibilities. To maximize your chances of success, it is crucial to prepare yourself for what awaits you. Form a team capable of triumphing against all of Arlo’s Pokémon, and victory will be within your reach!

In this guide, you’ll discover the full composition of Arlo’s team, the best counters for each of his Pokémon, and recommendations for assembling the ideal team to challenge him.

Summary

What Pokémon does Arlo use in Pokémon Go?

Pokémon 1 Pokémon 2 Pokémon 3
Chetiflor Alakazam Snorlax
Sharpedo Cizayok
Connect the stomach Magnesium

Here are the Pokémon that Arlo has. As is often the case, the first Pokémon is fixed, but its second and third choices are random from a list of 3 Pokémon.

To make the fight easier, you need to build a team that can exploit weaknesses and counter any Pokémon Arlo might call.

Phase 1: Chétiflor

Chetiflor

Plant / Poison Fighting, Water, Electric, Fairy, Plant Flight, Fire, Psychic, Ice

Since the new takeover of Team Go Rocket in October 2023, it is Chétiflor who will always initiate hostilities during your clashes with Arlo.

This Grass and Poison type Pokémon poses no threat if you bring a powerful Fire Pokémon, which could come in handy later in the fight.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Chétiflor:

  • Reshiram
  • Lugulabre
  • Darumacho
  • Brasegali
  • sulfide

Phase 2: Alakazam, Sharpedo, Magirive

Alakazam

Image Type Resistors Weaknesses
Psy Combat, Psychic Insect, Ghost, Darkness

Alakazam is a dangerous Pokémon, with formidable attacks. To defeat it, it’s best to opt for a Pokémon with Ghost or Dark abilities to cover Arlo’s other options.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Alakazam:

  • Lugulabre
  • Ectoplasm
  • Darkrai
  • Trioxyhydr
  • Zoroark

Sharpedo

Water / Darkness Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Ice, Darkness, Psychic Fighting, Insect, Plant, Electric, Fairy

Sharpedo has several enticing weaknesses, and we advise you to opt for the Fighting type. Indeed, several other Arlo monsters share this same weakness, and a powerful Fighting Pokémon can therefore be useful in several scenarios.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Sharpedo:

  • Cancrelove
  • Terrarium
  • Lucario
  • Bétochef
  • Chapignon

Just like Alakazam, Magirêve is weak against Ghost and Dark type attacks. With just one Pokémon, you can prepare yourself against these two monsters from Arlo’s team.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Magirêve:

  • Lugulabre
  • Ectoplasm
  • Darkrai
  • touch
  • Trioxyhydr

Phase 3: Ronflex, Cizayox, Magnézone

Snorlax

With its colossal endurance, Snorlax is a dangerous opponent if you don’t have an effective fighting Pokémon.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Snorlax:

  • Terrarium
  • Cancrelove
  • Lucario
  • Bétochef
  • Chapignon

Cizayok

Insect / Steel Normal, Insect, Steel, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Fairy, Poison, Plant Fire

Scizor is an extremely popular Pokémon with one gaping weakness: the Fire type. Fortunately, we already need a Fire-type Pokémon to defeat Chétiflor, which makes this Bug and Steel monster perfectly trivial.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Scizor:

  • Reshiram
  • Lugulabre
  • Darumacho
  • Brasegali
  • sulfide

Magnesium

Electric / Steel Normal, Rock, Bug, Plant, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Fairy, Flight, Poison, Steel Ground, Fighting, Fire

Magnezone is not really a danger if you arrive well prepared. This is because it is weak against Fighting and Fire types, which are two types you should have on your team.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Magnezone:

  • Reshiram
  • Lugulabre
  • Terrarium
  • Tranchodon
  • Bétochef

The best team composition to beat Arlo

As is often the case, the bosses of Team Rocket have some shortcomings in team building. This time again, a simple combination of 3 attack types allows you to take advantage of the weaknesses of all of Arlo’s Pokémon.

Here is the type of 3 Pokémon that you should add to your team:

The first is the Fire type. This fighter will be able to initiate the fight against Chétiflor, but also get rid of Scizor or Magnezone during the third phase.

Your second Pokémon should be Dark or Ghost type. This Pokémon will only be useful in phase 2, in the event that Arlo sends Alakazam or Magirêve.

Finally, plan for a Fighting -type Pokémon. A monster of this type will be able to start the fight in order to easily get rid of Sharpedo, Snorlax and Magnezone.

Example teams to beat Arlo:

  • Darumacho, Ectoplasma, Bétochef
  • Braségali, Lugulabre, Terracium
  • Sulfura, Darkrai, Mackogneur

If you don’t have all the Pokémon from one of our typical teams – and even if you don’t have any – then don’t panic! Any combination of Pokémon of the types listed can do the trick. So just take your best Fire, Dark/Ghost and Fighting Pokémon with you, and Arlo shouldn’t be able to resist you.
