The leaders of Team Go Rocket are back in force in Pokémon Go. We explain to you how to easily overcome Sierra for this month of January 2024.

Facing the leaders of Team Go Rocket represents one of the first major challenges new players face. Giovanni, Arlo, Cliff and Sierra have powerful Pokémon that will make short work of a beginner and/or poorly prepared trainer.

It is therefore crucial to carefully study the Sierra team to spot vulnerabilities to exploit. Indeed, choosing Pokémon of an advantageous type against Sierra monsters can greatly simplify the challenge of defeating this Team Go Rocket boss. Finding the right balance between your Pokémon’s power and type advantages will be the key to success.

Discover Sierra’s team, her Pokémon’s weaknesses, and a team proposal designed to triumph against her.

Grotadmorv Gyarados

Here are the Pokémon Sierra has available. In any case, she will start the fight by sending Tenefix. For the following phases, she will choose randomly between three Pokémon.

To defeat the powerful leader of Team Go Rocket, you must prepare a team that capitalizes on the weaknesses of all the Pokémon that Sierra could send you.

Discover the best counters to each Sierra Pokémon, then some tips for building the best team to defeat this leader of Team Go Rocket.

Phase 1: Ténéfix

Tenéfix

Darkness / Ghost Combat, Poison, Normal, Psy Fairy

Tenefix is the first Pokémon that Sierra will send during your battle. It only has one weakness: the Fairy type.

To defeat it, we therefore advise you to bring with you your best Fairy-type Pokémon, which can also be useful for the rest of the fight.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Tenefix:

  • Gardevoir
  • Togekiss
  • Zacian
  • Granbull
  • Nymphs

Phase 2: Gardevoir, Airmure, Grotadmorv

Gardevoir

Image Type Resistors Weaknesses
Psychic / Fairy Psy, Combat, Dragon Poison, Ghost, Steel

Gardevoir is the most annoying Pokémon on Sierra’s team, and the monster you have to hope you don’t encounter. Indeed, Gardevoir does not share any weaknesses with the trainer’s other Pokémon, and it is therefore of little interest to try to counter it.

If you’re really afraid of Gardevoir, here’s a selection of the best Pokémon to counter it:

  • Metagross
  • Lugulabre
  • Minotaupe
  • Ectoplasm
  • Rosed

Airmure

Steel / Flight Ground, Normal, Flying, Steel, Psychic, Dragon, Fairy, Poison, Bug, Plant Fire, Electric

Skarmory is a very robust Pokémon, but with fairly limited offensive potential. Since you may need an Electric Pokémon later in the fight, the latter will also be able to easily get rid of the metal bird.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Skarmory:

  • Cable company
  • Lifetime
  • Raikou
  • Electrhor
  • Magnesium

Grotadmorv

Poison Fight, Poison, Insect, Plant, Fairy Sol, Psych

The villainous Grotadmorv has made a place for himself on Sierra’s team, and his limited number of weaknesses still gives players a hard time.

This time, we advise you to opt for a Ground Pokémon which will also serve you in one of the scenarios of phase 3.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Grotadmorv:

  • Minotaupe
  • Demeter
  • Mammochon
  • Carchacrok
  • Rhinastoc

Phase 3: Demolosse / Empiflor / Gyarados

Demolition

Image Type Resistors Weaknesses
Darkness / Fire Ghost, Steel, Fire, Plant, Ice, Darkness, Psychic Fighting, Ground, Rock, Water

Demolosse offers us a whole range of easily exploitable weaknesses. Given Sierra’s current team, we advise you to counter the Dark Hound with a Ground-type Pokémon, which could also be used against Grotadmorv.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Houndoom:

  • Minotaupe
  • Demeter
  • Mammochon
  • Carchacrok
  • Rhinastoc

Empiflor

Plant / Poison Plant, Fight, Water, Electric, Fairy Flight, Fire, Psychic, Ice

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Empiflor:

    Gyarados

    Image Type Resistors Weaknesses
Water / Flight Fighting, Bug, Steel, Fire, Water, Ground Electric, Rock

Gyarados is scary, and its attack stat is enough to understand why. Unsurprisingly, it is recommended to use an Electric-type Pokémon to hit hard on its double weakness.

Here is a selection of the best Pokémon to counter Gyarados:

    • Cable company
    • Zekrom
    • Lifetime
    • Raikou
    • Magnesium

The best team composition to beat Sierra

Sierra has made serious strategic preparation efforts with its current line up. Indeed, the leader of Team Go Rocket has integrated several Pokémon with few weaknesses into her team, which makes it completely impossible to counter all of Sierra’s monsters with a combination of king types.

However, it is possible to secure a relatively affordable fight, with an advantage against almost the entire Sierra team.

Start by sending out a Fairy -type Pokémon. The latter will be able to get rid of Ténéfix without any worries.

Also bring an Electric -type Pokémon. The latter will have no trouble overcoming Skarmory, and will make short work of Gyarados.

Finally, a Ground -type Pokémon can take on Grotadmorv and Houndoom.

So, the only Pokémon for which you will not have a direct counter are Gardevoir and Empiflor. For Empiflor, you will need to rely on your Fairy and Ground Pokémon since it is resistant to Electric types. For Gardevoir, all your Pokémon should be able to participate in the war effort.

    Example teams to beat Sierra:

    • Gardevoir, Raikou, Carchacrok
    • Granbull, Électhor, Groudon
    • Nymphali, Mammal, Minotaupe

If you don’t have all the Pokémon from one of our recommended teams – and even if you don’t have any – then don’t panic! Any combination of Pokémon of the types listed can do the trick. So just bring your best Fairy, Electric and Ground Pokémon, and Sierra shouldn’t be able to resist you.
