How to Catch Sturgeon in Stardew Valley

Sturgeon, found in Stardew Valley, are highly sought after for their elusive nature and usefulness. Unfortunately, searching the rivers, beaches, and ponds of Pelican Town for this prized fish will yield no results. Sturgeons can only be found in a single location in Stardew Valley.

Where to Find Sturgeon in Stardew Valley

Sturgeon can be found at the Mountain Lake during both summer and winter. They are available in all weather conditions but are only active from 6 AM to 7 PM.

For those looking to complete the Lake Fish Bundle at the Community Center or to sell Caviar, catching Sturgeon is highly beneficial. Caviar is a highly profitable resource, selling for 500g each and requiring little effort aside from catching and placing the fish in a Fish Pond on your farm.

To successfully catch a Sturgeon, one must first obtain one from the Mountain Lake during daylight hours in either winter or summer. These elusive fish are most commonly found in the deeper areas of the lake, far from the shore. Setting up on one of the small islands in the middle of the lake is the ideal location for catching a Sturgeon. From there, it is simply a waiting game until one is hooked.

Sturgeon can be quite challenging to catch, especially when compared to the other more docile fish found in the Mountain Lake. If you’re having trouble reeling one in, there are a couple of options available. You can use a Training Rod or a Trap Bobber. However, using a Training Rod will result in a lower quality fish. On the other hand, a Trap Bobber will make the fishing process easier, but it can only be attached to an Iridium Rod or Advanced Iridium Rod. The Iridium Rod is only obtainable if your Fishing skill is at level six or higher, while the Advanced Iridium Rod can only be obtained by mastering the Fishing skill at Mastery Cave, a late-game mechanic.

Whichever choice you make, it will make fishing easier and increase your chances of catching the elusive Sturgeon. It is highly recommended to donate your first Sturgeon to the Community Center, but don’t hesitate to return to Mountain Lake for another one. The Sturgeon is considered one of the top fish to have in a Fish Pond.
