Getting rid of your TikTok search history is important if you want to explore a new rabbit hole or if you accidentally ended up in an undesirable part of the app.
The structure of TikTok ensures that once you begin watching a particular type of video, you will quickly receive recommendations for similar content.
While you can use the Following section to filter content by following specific creators and topics, the For You Page will continue to display recommended videos based on the app’s assessment of your interests.
Sometimes, the content displayed on the app may not interest you and you may prefer to search for something else. This is where the search function comes in handy. However, it is also beneficial to occasionally delete your search history to keep things updated.
Clearing Your TikTok Search History
If you prefer, you can disable watch history completely, but if you only want to remove the searches from the past week or so, it is a simple process.
You have the choice between two options. You can either select ‘clear all’ to delete all of your recent search history, or you can manually delete specific searches while keeping others.
To eliminate all items, simply access your search history and select ‘clear all’ at the bottom. Alternatively, to delete specific searches, click on the ‘x’ next to the respective term.
- Open up the TikTok app
- Press the ‘x’ next to a specific term to remove it
- Click the ‘see more’ option at the bottom to show all your searches
- Select ‘clear all’ if you want to completely clear out your search history
- Click the ‘confirm’ option once you’re sure you want to remove it
Hit the ‘clear all’ option on your TikTok search history to delete everything!
After deleting your search history, your For You Page may undergo some immediate changes and suggest more broad-ranging videos. However, some of the previously viewed clips may still reappear.
It will require multiple viewings of various types of clips to fully revamp your FYP, but the decision ultimately lies with you.
