Taking on the Grym of Grymforge is no easy task, as it presents one of the most challenging battles at the end of Act 1 in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, a player recently shared a clever trick that can greatly simplify the entire ordeal.
It is common knowledge that Grymforge is an unmissable location in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1. Not only does a visit to this expansive forge offer some of the finest armor available throughout your journey, but it also presents a confrontation with the formidable Grym.
This colossal Adamantine golem will awaken immediately upon any attempt to utilize the renowned forge, and many believe that it poses one of the most formidable battles if you do not have a predetermined plan to overcome it.
This is particularly challenging for new players as the Grym is impervious to harm unless it has the Superheated debuff. This status can only be inflicted by pushing the creature into the nearby lava, a feat that requires precise calculations in the midst of a close-quarters fight. Even then, players must also lure the Grym to the center of the forge and time their strikes perfectly with the giant hammer in order to defeat it.
While this approach may seem straightforward, precise timing is crucial for these tactics to be effective. In an Honour Mode playthrough, the smallest error could result in the Grym attacking one of your allies while you attempt to distract it. Fortunately, a player discovered a simple trick that greatly simplifies the entire process.
The Grym can only be affected by bludgeoning weapons.
During a battle with Grym, I had planned on using the classic hammer. However, to my surprise, it passed the check and the illusion vanished. It was then that I had an epiphany – the hammer deals bludgeoning damage, which happens to be Grym’s vulnerability. This was described by a player on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Subreddit.
The OP proceeded to explain that they utilized Karlach, utilizing a Berserker Thrower build, and had her hurling her pike to topple the Grym. Fans noted that this strategy could be easily executed by inspecting each enemy beforehand and even mentioned that the notorious Open Hand Monk build could produce the same outcome.
“A player jokingly remarked that the designers of the afterlife forge must be witnessing four men effortlessly dismantle their robot, constructed with adamantium and forged with a massive hammer, with just their bare hands.”
Taking down the Grym in Act 1 is no easy feat, but there are even tougher foes to conquer in Baldur’s Gate 3. To learn how to defeat them, discover the tactics for facing Yurgir and the most effective strategies for defeating the Apostle of Myrkul.
