The Black Bear Guai is the ultimate enemy in Chapter One of Black Myth: Wukong, serving as a colossal bear that stands in the way of players and the first major artifact. Although it is technically a transformed version of the earlier boss, Black Wind King, it stands out for its immense size and devastating attacks. To defeat the Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong, follow these steps.
Guide to Defeating Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong
Despite Black Bear Guai’s initial intimidating appearance, this boss can actually be one of the easier ones, especially if you have the Fireproof Mantle equipped. This item greatly reduces the amount of fire damage you will take.
When it comes to transformations, I would avoid using Guangmou as Black Bear Guai tends to always create a gap between the player and himself.
Black Bear Guai Phase One
Black Bear Guai’s transformation into a wisp marks the beginning of Phase One, which occurs almost always.
As a result, Black Bear Guai will transform back and perform a jumping attack, plunging towards you. This move is easily avoidable if you have locked on to him.
In phase one, players will be able to use a limited number of powerful slashes and lunges. However, many of these attacks have a long wind-up animation, making them easy to dodge, particularly if the player moves backwards.
If he starts powering up from a distance, that’s your signal to step out of his line of sight and move away from his general path. While it’s relatively simple to successfully dodge most of his attacks, you can also stay at a safe distance and continue using strong attacks to chip away at his health.
One of the strategies for dealing with Black Bear Guai is to allow him to randomly flee, giving you a chance to recover, or to pursue and attack him, particularly with a powerful charged heavy strike. This will also provide opportunities for healing.
His usual practice is to be available for a strike once he finishes a combination.
Black Bear Guai Phase Two
Once you have reduced his HP to 50%, he will slam the ground and release a burst of fire. This is your signal to equip the Fireproof Mantle, as the Black Bear Guai will now also inflict fire damage.
He still has the same slashes, but they now deal fire damage. The strategy should remain largely unchanged. Ideally, you should aim to perfect-dodge each attack, but simply dodging away in his general direction also works well.
To deal light and heavy damage during his combos, look for opportunities to strike. If you find yourself low on health, it would be wise to activate the Red Tides transformation.
During this stage, Black Bear Guai will transform into a fiery wisp instead of its regular form. It will remain in this state for some time and quickly move towards you to inflict damage. There will be a noticeable visual and auditory cue before it charges at you, so be sure to watch out for it. The wisp will also enlarge and then reform before launching itself towards you.
To continue effectively dealing damage, keep pursuing Black Bear Guai and utilizing the heavy-charged attack. Take advantage of both Immobilize and Cloud Step whenever possible, and prioritize charged heavy attacks. This will help you in your pursuit of Black Bear Guai.
Despite his size, the fight against him is not overly difficult and it’s a relief to know that the camera doesn’t hinder players. Upon defeating him, players will unlock the first Relic, Craving Eyes, and finish chapter one. This will then allow players to venture into the open map of chapter two and uncover all of its hidden secrets.
