After much anticipation, Star Wars Outlaws has been released and we have been thoroughly enjoying exploring the vast expanse of the galaxy as Kay Vess. Taking a break from our attempts to cheat at the Sabacc table, we took the time to review the game and it received a commendable rating of four out of five from our dedicated Star Wars fan.
Despite our enjoyment, there is a small caveat. Before fully immersing yourself in the game’s exceptional exploration of its four major planets, it might be worth adjusting a setting that we personally found bothersome.

According to developers who spoke with GameSpot, the default display mode known as “Cinematic”presents the game in a widescreen format, aiming to replicate the aspect ratio popularized during the release of the original Star Wars trilogy in theaters.
In order to achieve this goal, they included several lens effects and a stuttery film grain that operates at a constant 24 frames per second, regardless of your hardware’s capabilities. This unique feature may appeal to cinephiles who appreciate a more cinematic aesthetic.
For avid gamers, the familiar 16 X 9 aspect ratio is most likely the preferred choice. Fortunately, Star Wars Outlaws offers the option for players to switch to its cinematic display mode.
Changing the Cinematic Display Mode in Star Wars Outlaws
Disabling the Cinematic display mode in Star Wars Outlaws is incredibly easy. Begin by accessing the options menu and navigating to the settings tab. Then, scroll down to the Display and Graphics settings and choose them.
After accessing the interface, navigate to the cinematic display mode settings, which should be the third option from the top. Then, scroll either left or right according to your current setting and choose the ‘fill screen’ option.
There you go. This should have adjusted your display to a more recognizable aspect ratio and eliminated any screen effects.
