How to Enable DSR Support in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 utilizes Unreal Engine 5 and is widely regarded as one of the most technically impressive games ever created. Despite its impressive optimization, some players may find that it lacks detailed settings such as post-processing toggles and downsampling support. If you wish to enable DSR in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, you can do so externally by following these steps.

Enable DSR Support in Hellblade 2

To ensure that DSR support is active in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, you have the option to manually adjust your desktop resolution to match your desired resolution or utilize AutoActions to automate the process.

Despite owning a 1080p monitor, I am able to utilize NVIDIA’s DSR support to set up multiple higher-resolution DSR factors for DLDSR. Unfortunately, the in-game menu only offers a maximum resolution of 1080p, rendering the higher resolutions inaccessible.

Change Desktop Resolution

To make a simple adjustment, all you have to do is increase the desktop resolution to the desired value before launching the game. For instance, if you wish to play at 4K, set your desktop resolution to 3840 x 2160.

  • Right-click on your desktop, and select Display settings
  • Change the resolution to your desired target under Scale and layout

By following these instructions, the higher resolutions will become visible in the in-game settings menu.

Despite its effectiveness, this approach has a few drawbacks. For one, you will need to manually adjust both the resolution and refresh rate each time. For example, my monitor’s default refresh rate is 165 Hz, but switching to 4K resolution sets it back to 60 Hz, requiring me to constantly make changes. This is why we suggest using the automated method, which we will outline in the following section.

Use AutoActions

AutoActions is a free, open-source automation tool that enables users to create profiles that automatically adjust resolution, framerate, HDR, and color depth when launching and closing applications.

The setup process is simple, and I will outline the steps below.

  • Head over to the following GitHub link, and download the latest release (click on Release_AutoActions_1.9.19_x64.zip)
  • Extract the file and open AutoActions.exe
  • Click on the Profiles tab, and select Profile 1
  • Under Actions, click the + bar next to “Application started actions
  • In the dropdown menu, choose “Display action”and input the desired settings. For instance, we have provided values for a maximum resolution of 4K and a refresh rate of 165Hz as an example. You are free to use any settings you prefer.
  • Click OK
  • Now, click the + bar next to “Application closed actions
  • Select “Display action” in the dropdown, and use the following settings
  • Click OK

Having successfully set up a profile, we are able to compel Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to utilize it.

  • Click on the + icon at the bottom left of the “Applications” tab.
  • Click on “Choose application” in the next window, and locate the Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 executable (Hellblade2-Win64-Shipping.exe)

Senua's Saga Hellblade II\Hellblade2\Binaries\Win64

  • Select Open
  • In the Applications section, you will find the Hellblade 2 executable. Simply choose Profile 1 from the dropdown menu, and you’re all set.

Once you have finished configuring your profile, simply minimize AutoActions and open Senau’s Saga Hellblade 2. The program will automatically adjust both the resolution and refresh rate to your desired settings.

Once you exit the game, AutoActions will restore the resolution and framerate to the default settings that you have specified as a parameter.

If you desire a more personalized experience, you have the option to turn off chromatic aberration and film grain, as well as eliminate the letterboxing effect completely.

It is our hope that the developers will include an option in a future patch to enable DSR/VSR from within the in-game settings, allowing players to completely bypass the aforementioned processes.
