Discover the steps to enable Proximity Chat in Fortnite, which was recently added in the v30.40 update.
The latest update, v30.40, for Fortnite not only introduced a brand new event featuring Fall Guys, but also included a highly anticipated feature that was previously leaked: Proximity Chat.
Similarly to other online games that offer this function, it enables you to interact with players who are in close proximity during a match. This valuable addition adds an element of excitement to the gameplay, whether you are playing with friends or other individuals.
Fortnite: How to Enable Proximity Chat
Under the Proximity Chat setting in Fortnite, players can tweak the volume distance and falloff distance.
The Voice section in the Island Settings allows players to toggle the Proximity Chat feature in Fortnite. However, this feature is currently limited to UEFN and Creative Maps, and is not available for all game modes at the moment.
The default setting is off, therefore, to utilize it, you must adhere to the steps below:
- You can enable this feature and load your own island or any other island.
- Navigate to Island Settings.
- Go to the Mode tab.
- Choose the Voice Chat section.
- To enable Proximity Chat, switch it to On.
- Make modifications.
Enabling this feature will allow you to communicate with and listen to other players in your vicinity on the island. Additionally, a HUD will also be present.
According to a blog post from Epic, players who are actively speaking will be displayed through a mandatory HUD element. Additionally, it has been clarified that reports of voice chat violations will be moderated in accordance with the Community Rules.
Is there Proximity Chat in Fortnite’s Battle Royale?
Although Proximity Chat is not available in Battle Royale, it is exclusively available for use in Creative Maps. It is important to mention that Epic has stated the feature is currently in Early Access and the developers are actively exploring ways to provide players with new and exciting features as soon as the core functionality is fully functional.
This does not eliminate the possibility of it being implemented in the Battle Royale.
