Cyberpunk 2077’s RT: Overdrive update is now available for download on PC. CD Projekt Red has officially begun distributing the update. Ray Tracing: Overdrive is the next innovation in gaming graphics, according to its creators. How to use RT: Overdrive mode in Cyberpunk 2077
Ray Tracing: Overdrive significantly improves Cyberpunk 2077’s visuals. The game was the first to support DLSS 3 and includes some of the most intensive ray tracing implementations.
With RT: Overdrive, players can utilize comprehensive path tracing, a significant improvement over the standard rendering method. Path tracing generates the most realistic visuals possible with current-generation hardware.
This option is toggleable from the in-game graphics preferences menu. If you possess eligible hardware, please follow these steps:
Step 1: If you are playing a video game, pause it. then navigate to Preferences.
The second step is to navigate to the Graphics tab.
There are two methods to enable RT Overdrive in Step 3. You can navigate to the relevant settings using Quick Preset. However, this may impact other settings you’ve previously configured.
Scroll down to the dedicated Path Tracing toggle in the graphics menu and toggle it on or off based on your preferences.
The game also enables players to enable path tracing specifically in the photo mode for the highest quality screenshots. To do so, navigate to the Ray Tracing section of the Graphics menu and activate the switch.
System requirements for RT: Overdrive
As previously stated, the entrance requirements for Cyberpunk 2077’s RT Overdrive mode are quite stringent. The developers suggest an RTX 3090 for 1080p at 30 frames per second. To play the game with the feature at higher resolutions, a graphics card with a minimum of an RTX 4070 Ti is recommended.
In order to use RT: Overdrive’s photo function, a GPU with at least 8 GB of VRAM is required. This includes the RTX 20 and 30 series graphics cards.
Overdrive was developed exclusively in collaboration with Nvidia. Therefore, gamers with AMD graphics devices cannot utilize this function.
Expected performance
The new RT: Overdrive mode can be particularly hardware-intensive. Even the RTX 4090 achieves approximately 16 to 17 frames per second in the game, which is quite surprising.
Without DLSS or ray tracing, the current-generation Nvidia flagship achieves approximately 71 FPS in 4K, according to our testing. Therefore, gamers may have to rely on DLSS 3 to render the game at a significantly reduced resolution in order to play it with the new mode enabled.
