XDefiant allows for various input types on PC and also offers the option for input-based matchmaking. These options include controllers from both PlayStation and Xbox, as well as the traditional keyboard and mouse. If you encounter any difficulties with your controllers while playing XDefiant, here are some steps you can take to resolve most issues.
Fixing XDefiant Controller Issues
As Ubisoft games do not offer Steam Input support or a similar alternative, you will need to depend on the developers’ preset profiles for each controller.
After conducting my own tests, I can confirm that the Xbox Series controller and Dual Shock 4 are both fully functional and display correct prompts while playing XDefiant.
If your game is unable to detect your controller, here are some recommendations that may help resolve the issue.
Connect One Controller at a Time
If your PC is connected to multiple controllers, you will not be able to switch between them. This also applies to other peripherals such as steering wheels, pedals, or flight sticks. Make sure to only have one input type connected, aside from your mouse and keyboard.
To test it out, I first connected my Xbox controller, but when I tried to switch to the Dual Shock 4, it didn’t work. It wasn’t until I unplugged the Xbox controller that the Dual Shock 4 started functioning properly in the menus.
This solution should resolve the issue for the majority of users, and your controller should resume functioning as usual.
Check Detected Controllers
A simple method to confirm that your controllers are being recognized is by navigating Ubisoft Connect using the controller. Just use either controller’s left stick and ensure that it is being detected by the client. The prompts on Ubisoft Connect will also adjust based on the type of controller that is connected.
You can also view identified controllers in the Steam client, despite the fact that XDefiant is not yet supported on that platform. To do so, navigate to Steam > Settings > Controller:
