Since Once Human is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG, it is possible to encounter other players while playing. You have the option to communicate with other players using the game’s chat system, but there are also methods to hide the chat if desired.
There are numerous reasons why players may choose to hide chat, such as keeping their stream more organized or avoiding distractions. If you wish to hide chat, or even change the color of your text, here are the steps to do so.
How to Turn Off Text Chat in Once Human
- Press F1 to bring up the Contacts menu.
- Navigate to the messages tab in settings.
- Adjust your channel settings.
There is a variety of channels in Once Human, each with its own unique messages. Here is a brief overview of each channel and its purpose:
- System channel: Shows system messages and notifications.
- Regional channel: Displays messages from other players in your region.
- World channel: Broadcasts messages to all players in the game world.
- Team channel: Communicate with your team members.
- Hive channel: Communicate with players in your Hive.
- Warband channel: Communicate with players in your Warband.
To completely disable all in-game chat, simply turn off all of these channels. Alternatively, you can customize your chat preferences by adjusting the settings for each individual channel.

How to change text color
If you are satisfied with the default chat settings in Once Human but would like to personalize it further, you have the option to modify your text color by adding a # and the corresponding color code before your text.
For instance, if you were to type “#G Hi,” the word ‘Hi’ would appear in green in the chat. Below is a list of all the available colors and their corresponding codes:
- Green: #G
- Red: #R
- White: #W
- Blue: #B
- Black: #K
All of these colors can be found in the game, but if you want to add a unique touch, you can use #c followed by a color hex code of your choice. Color Hex Codes is a helpful website for finding the specific codes you need.
After obtaining your color code, input “#c6a20cf”for instance, and your text will appear in a regal purple hue.
Currently, Once Human is only available on PC, but there are plans to release it on consoles in the near future. It is uncertain if this feature will be included on those platforms, but we will provide updates as they become available. In the meantime, players can still obtain codes for free items and can easily locate Gold and Aluminum when necessary.
