“While Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn does not have high system requirements, it is possible to encounter problems such as low FPS and stuttering if optimized settings are not used.”
As a Soulslite game, prioritizing performance and maximizing frame rate is crucial, as stutters during combat can be disruptive, particularly in fast-paced situations. To ensure optimal performance, here’s how to resolve low FPS and stuttering issues and achieve smooth gameplay.
Lower your settings
To improve performance, it is recommended to lower your in-game graphics settings. If you typically use high or above settings, using the Medium preset and disabling motion blur can instantly increase your FPS. While motion blur typically does not impact performance, I was able to gain a few more frames by turning it off.
It is possible that you desire to experience the graphics at the highest preset, but this could be the reason for your game’s stuttering. For instance, if your PC barely meets the recommended requirements, using maximum in-game settings will not result in good performance.
Make sure to use optimized graphics settings.
Updating Your Graphics Drivers
It is important to note that newer titles, such as Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, typically perform better when using the latest drivers. Therefore, it is advisable to check your GPU driver version and ensure that you are using the most up-to-date one.
To update Nvidia graphics drivers on your PC, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Nvidia.com and download GeForce Experience.
- To access GeForce Experience, open the application.
- Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab.
- To check for updates, simply click on the option located in the upper right corner.
- If there is an available update, the steps should be followed.
To update AMD graphics drivers on your PC, follow these steps:
- To access the options, simply right-click on your desktop.
- Access AMD Radeon Settings.
- To access the Home page, click on the Home icon.
- Select the option ‘New Updates’ located at the bottom left.
- Select ‘check for update.’
- In the event that an update is present, proceed with the instructions.
Using DirectX 11
Numerous players have encountered issues while using DirectX Version 12 as their Graphics API. Therefore, a reliable solution to eliminate stutters is to revert to DX11. This can easily be done by adjusting the API in the Graphics settings found in Flintlock’s main menu.
Close Background Apps and Overlays
To ensure optimal performance of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, it is recommended to close any background apps and overlays that may be running. This includes CPU-intensive software such as OBS or GeForce Experience, as they could potentially limit your game’s performance.
Keep in mind that if you enjoy recording your gameplay on these apps, you will likely experience a decrease in performance. Whether you are a streamer or simply like to record your playthroughs, occasional stutters or drops in performance cannot be avoided.
