Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree offers plenty of hidden treasures, one of which is Miquella’s Great Rune. Throughout the DLC, players are on a quest to find the demigod and at one point, they will receive a notification declaring, “A powerful rune has shattered somewhere.”

How to Obtain Miquella’s Great Rune
In order to obtain Miquella’s Great Rune, you will have to battle the Scadutree Avatar boss, which can be found at Scadutree Base near the Tree-Worship Passage area of worship. Before facing the challenging boss, we will explain the step-by-step process for reaching this location.
The boss is located in the Church District of Shadow Keep, which is accessible by going down into the crater within Moorth Ruins and taking the ladder up to Bonny Village.
To reach the Church District Entrance, first cross the village and continue down the rope bridges. Then, proceed straight ahead, passing Rabbath’s Rise, until you reach the gateway that leads to the site of grace.
The Church District will be flooded until you turn the wheel.
Starting here, you will have to traverse across the rooftops until you arrive at the large opening that will allow you to leap onto the rafters. With caution, descend and proceed down the hallway where you will encounter a Fire Knight on patrol. On the left, you will come across a door that leads back outside. Continue towards it and make a left turn after crossing the small bridge.
Starting from the left turn, continue forward until you reach a door with a ladder placed next to it. Use the ladder to climb up, then turn the wheel that is directly in front of you. This will drain the water that has flooded the streets of the Church District.
Upon opening the door next to the ladder, you will have the opportunity to discover what lies beyond. After entering, jump down and make a right turn to activate the Sunken Chapel site of grace. Once completed, return the way you came and continue past the rotunda towards the church area on the left. Continue straight until you reach a statue of Marika, then take a right into the adjacent hallway.
As you follow this path, you will eventually come across locked double doors that can be opened to reveal a lift. Take the lift all the way down to reach the Tree-Worship Passage site of grace.
Open the double doors and head down to get to the boss.
Simply follow these steps to reach the boss room: run straight through the cave, cross the small wooden bridge, and take the stairs next to the impossible-to-miss statue. By doing so, you will find yourself right outside the boss room.
How to Use
Miquella’s Great Rune is intended to be utilized during the ultimate battle against the final boss in the DLC. To avoid spoilers, we will not reveal the identity of the boss, but they possess a special grab attack that aims to charm you into surrendering. While you can survive their initial grab, being caught a second time will result in instant defeat as the boss will take control of your heart.
To prevent this outcome, simply access your inventory and utilize the Great Rune in the midst of the battle. This action will grant you immunity against their allure. It’s vital to note that, unlike other Great Runes, this particular item does not offer any enhancements and is not able to be activated at a Divine Tower.
Boss Fight Guide
Despite the size of the boss room, you cannot summon Torrent.
The Scaudtree Avatar is quite a formidable foe, as it is both large in size and able to move swiftly around the arena. What adds to the difficulty is that it has three different stages to contend with.
Regardless of the stage of the battle, focus on targeting the sunflower head of the boss as it inflicts significant damage. Close in on the avatar swiftly, but be cautious of its Triple Tree Root move, which involves sending two waves of tree roots towards you. Once you are in close proximity, display some patience and take advantage of any opportunities to attack its head.
In the second phase, be aware of a new move. As soon as you respawn, the boss will quickly move towards you in a thrusting motion. This will happen three times, so remember to watch for the animation. To dodge the attack, roll through it.
To enter the third phase, you will need to deplete its health bar once more. During the final round, it is advisable to summon a Spirit Ash as the Scadutree Avatar has a tendency to repeatedly use an extremely frustrating AoE attack that is nearly impossible to avoid if you happen to be within its range.
Upon spotting the boss, you will immediately notice its raised head and the golden beams emanating from its body. The intense energy builds up to a powerful explosion that can easily take you out in one hit, so it is crucial to run away as quickly as possible. If you have summoned a Spirit Ash, it can withstand the damage while you strategize for a chance to attack. Once the boss is vanquished, you will be rewarded with Miquella’s Great Rune.
