In addition to the various weapon types, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring also introduced two new consumables: Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots.
Although these items can be used in combat without restrictions, they are most effective when used against the Furnace Golems. These massive bosses can be found roaming the open world of the Shadow Realm.
As this is a specialized item, it will need to be crafted. To do so, you must unlock the recipes for both the Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots.
Unlocking the Recipe for Hefty Fire Pots
To obtain the recipe for the Hefty Fire Pots, one must acquire the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [1].
To locate it, you must navigate to the Site of Grace at the Scorched Ruins. Once you are facing north, you will spot a staircase with a skeleton on it – loot the skeleton to obtain the book.
This is probably the first area that you will encounter when starting the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
This location is also abundant with less formidable Shadow enemies, giving you the option to either sneak by them or eliminate them.
How to unlock Hefty Furnace Pot recipe
The recipe for the Hefty Furnace Pot can be located in the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2], which is available at the Run Down Traveler’s Rest.
To reach your destination, you must travel to the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace. From there, proceed towards Ellac Bridge, but refrain from crossing it.
To reach the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2], avoid the bridge and head towards the Run-Down Traveler’s Rest located directly below it. Inside the structure, you will come across a corpse holding the cookbook.
This structure can be found below the Ellac Greatbridge.
After obtaining the recipe for the Hefty Fire Pots and the Hefty Furnace Pots, you can proceed to craft them using the following steps.
How to craft
To create Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots, you will require the following items:
- Hefty Cracked Pots
- Redflesh Mushrooms
- Black Pyreflies
- Black Smoldering Butterflies
- Ember of Messmer
- Furnace Visage
You will discover the remaining items, besides the Hefty Cracked Pots, spread throughout various locations in the Realm of Shadows.
To locate the remaining items in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, follow these steps:
Where to find Hefty Cracked Pots
To locate the Belurat Gaol, which is where you can find Hefty Cracked Pots, simply head northwest from the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace.
The three Hefty Cracked Pots in Belurat Gaol are the easiest to find in the game.
After entering the Belurat Gaol, continue to explore the area until you find a hole in the ground that leads to a room filled with hanging jars.
As you progress through this room by leaping from one jar to another, you will come across a wooden platform. Descend onto this platform to obtain your initial Hefty Cracked Pot.
Once you have obtained the pot, descend and you will find yourself in a labyrinth filled with jars. Upon successfully navigating through the maze, leap to the opposite side and continue following the path until you reach two dead bodies, each holding a large broken pot.
Additionally, in the Realm of Shadows, defeating other enemies will also lead you to encounter additional Hefty Cracked Pots, in addition to the three locations previously mentioned.
Where to find Ember of Messmer
The only place to find Embers of Messmer is in the Scadu Atlus region. These valuable items can be acquired by defeating the fire dogs that guard the Messmer Military Camps near Shadow Keep and Castle Ensis.
Where to Purchase Furnace Visages
Furnace Visages can only be obtained by vanquishing Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The game has a limited number of Furnace Visages, which restricts the amount of Hefty Furnace Pots that can be crafted.
How to use
To effectively utilize the Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots, one must either reach a higher ground during the battle against the Furnace Golems or successfully weaken them to the point of falling.
After the occurrence of this event, it will be necessary to throw the Hefty Fire Pot or the Hefty Furnace Pot into their basket, resulting in significant damage to them. Considering the considerable amount of damage inflicted by this item, it is the most effective method to defeat these field bosses.
If you are having difficulty locating a quality sword, you can find all three Backhand Blades, as well as the Ancient Meteorite Ore Greatsword, in the Shadow Realm.
