Meltan is a popular species in Pokemon Go that many players strive to obtain. However, the process is not as simple as it may seem, as players must have a Mystery Box in order to unlock it.

Meltan Catching Guide
The Mystery Box can be opened to obtain Meltan.
The Mystery Box is like an Incense focused only on Meltan.
After obtaining it in your Item Bag, simply open it and Meltan will appear in the vicinity for 60 minutes. Therefore, try to catch as many as possible before the time limit expires.
Once the 60 minutes have elapsed, there will be a three-day waiting period before the Mystery Box can be used again. Once this cooldown period ends, players must transfer another Pokemon in order to have another opportunity to catch Meltan.
To evolve Meltan into Melmetal, you will need to collect 400 Candy. To maximize the amount of Candy you receive, it is recommended to use Pinap berries when catching Meltan. Additionally, setting Meltan as your Buddy can also greatly assist in obtaining the necessary Candy.
Although the Mystery Box is typically the only method of obtaining this Mythical creature, the Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event, taking place until Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time, offers both complimentary and paid Timed Research tasks that grant opportunities to encounter Meltan.
What is the Mystery Box in Pokemon Go?
The Mystery Box is a special item that functions similarly to Incense in Pokemon Go, but with the added capability of attracting Meltan. It is comparable to the Gimmighoul-attracting Coin Bag that was introduced after the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Keep in mind that the Mystery Box will attract Meltan for 60 minutes once activated, but it also has a cooldown period of three days. Be prepared to take full advantage of it during this time.
Meltan debuted in Pokemon Go even before the mainline games.
How to get the Mystery Box in Pokemon Go
To obtain the Mystery Box, you are required to move one of your Pokemon to either Home or Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. If you have not yet completed this task, we have you covered.
To transfer species and receive the Mystery Box in Pokemon Home, you must download the app on your mobile device. It is not necessary to purchase a premium plan for this transfer. After downloading the app, simply follow these steps:
- To access Pokemon Go, open the app and tap on the Poke Ball icon located at the bottom of the screen.
- Click on the Settings option located at the top right corner of the screen.
- Tap ‘Connected Devices and Services.’
- Tap ‘Pokemon Home.’
- To log in, please use the Nintendo Account that you previously used to set up your Pokemon Home.
After completing this action, the ‘Sign In‘ button will be replaced with the ‘Send Pokemon‘ button. Whenever you wish to transfer from Go to Home, simply tap the button and choose the species you want to transfer using the Go Transporter. The Mystery Box will then appear in your Item Bag once your first transfer is complete.
Please keep in mind that once a Pokemon is sent to Pokemon Home, it cannot be returned to Pokemon Go. Therefore, only use this option for the catches you no longer wish to have in your game.
Can Meltan be shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, you can still find shiny Meltan, as it will remain available until July 3, 2024 through the use of the Mystery Box.
The bolt of Shiny Meltan is a darker shade compared to the regular version, and its tail is blue instead of the usual red. This may be difficult to notice during an encounter since its tail cannot be viewed directly. Therefore, it is important to look for the sparkles and the icon above its CP.
