The Drunken Boar is a non-playable character in Black Myth: Wukong, and defeating it is necessary to obtain the Wind Tamer, an item that greatly simplifies the Yellow Wind Sage boss battle.
In Black Myth: Wukong, the side quests are cleverly hidden and the NPCs who give them can be found in remote locations. These quests reward players with valuable items that provide insight into the game’s lore or assist in defeating powerful bosses.
The Drunken Boar is an important NPC that can be found in Yellow Wind Ridge. If you are having difficulty defeating the Yellow Wind Sage boss, completing the Drunken Boar’s quest is a must. This quest unlocks the Wind Tamer, a powerful tool that can greatly improve your chances in battle.
How to Complete the Drunken Boar Quest and Obtain the Wind Tamer
Step 1: Reach Rockrest Flat Shrine
First, make your way to Rockrest Flat Shrine.
The Shrine near the Stone Vanguard boss fight in Black Myth: Wukong can also be accessed by defeating the Flowing Sands Prince in the opening area and then taking a right through a wooden bridge.
Regardless of the route you choose, you will ultimately arrive at this Shrine, as it is a significant part of the Yellow Wind Ridge.
Meet the Drunken Boar
Meet the Drunken Boar in Black Myth: Wukong.
Starting from the Rockrest Flat Shrine, proceed to the opposite side of the rocks. You will encounter an enemy with a shield protecting a wooden barricade. Defeat the enemy, break down the barricade, and enter. This will lead you to a vast open field with a cluster of rocks in the center.
During your journey, you will encounter a Drunken Boar who will request your assistance in finding a remedy to sober up.
Step 3: Obtaining the Arhat Gold Piece
Obtaining this item is necessary for the quest and can be obtained by defeating the First Prince of the Flowing Sands, one of the main bosses in the region.
The boss in this encounter is fairly straightforward, as its only attack is to charge towards you. To avoid taking damage, all you need to do is sidestep its charges. Once defeated, the boss will drop the valuable Arhat Gold Piece.
Step 4: Get a Sobering Stone
Sobering Stone is a key item in Black Myth: Wukong.
In order to sober up the Drunken Boar, a Sobering Stone is required. This item can be obtained by teleporting to Crouching Tiger Temple and defeating the Tiger Vanguard, if you have not already done so. Be prepared for a difficult boss battle.
Once you have successfully defeated it, continue running in a straight direction until you arrive at Windrest Bridge Shrine. Upon reaching the shrine, proceed straight to the end of the bridge before turning left, then right, and finally left again. By breaking two small jars, as depicted in the image above, you will discover the Sobering Stone.
Step 5: Return to the Drunken Boar
Once you have obtained the Sobering Stone, return to the Drunken Boar and give it to them. This will prompt the Boar to stand up and request meat from the Crouching Tiger Temple. However, it is important to note that there is no meat available, so there is no need to waste time looking for it.
To get there quickly, simply teleport to the Crouching Tiger Temple and then follow the steps outlined below.
Step 6: Talk to the Drunken Boar in Crouching Tiger Temple
Give the Jade Lotus to the Drunken Boar.
Upon arriving at Crouching Tiger Temple via teleportation, proceed to ascend the stairs and turn right at the second junction. The Drunken Boar will be located in this area.
Speak to the Boar and it will request a Jade Lotus from you. You can obtain this item from any Shrine Shop for 90 Will. Once you have the Jade Lotus, give it to the Boar, exhaust its dialogue, and then return to the original location where you first encountered the Drunken Boar.
Step 7: Defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire
After returning to the open field, make a right turn and you will come across an enraged Drunken Boar who is displeased with your access to the Arhat Gold Piece.
A battle will commence, and your opponent will be the Yellow-Robed Squire. Fortunately, this fight should be manageable and you should not encounter any obstacles. Once you have emerged victorious, the Boar will concede and make its way inside the door directly behind it.
Step 8: Reaching Sahali
The Kingdom of Sahali is a secret region.
As soon as you step through the door, the Kingdom of Sahali will reveal itself. The Drunken Boar will regale you with a tale, and you will soon come upon a fresh Shrine. If you continue walking, you will encounter yet another Tiger Vanguard waiting for you.
Although it is easier than the one found at Crouching Tiger Temple, make sure to defeat this opponent. Once you have defeated it, continue forward and speak with the Yellow Wind Sage NPC.
Step 9: Defeat Fuban
Defeating Fuban is the final step of the quest.
Upon conversing with the Yellow Wind Sage, a colossal beetle named Fuban will appear in the center of a desert arena. This boss is not particularly difficult, especially with the assistance of the Yellow Wind Sage.
Once the boss is defeated, you will be transported back outside the initial gate where you entered. At this point, you will have obtained the Wind Tamer.
Up until now, you may have been struggling with defeating the Yellow Wind Sage boss version, but with the Wind Tamer, you can finally overcome it.
How to Use the Wind Tamer
Wind Tamer is used to suppress Wind attacks.
The Wind Tamer effectively nullifies Wind Attacks in Black Myth: Wukong. When facing the Yellow Wind Sage, it will unleash a barrage of aggressive and difficult to handle Wind attacks.
The meter bar located next to the Spirit meter on the bottom right of your screen fills up as you fight or rest at a Shrine, preventing spamming. When the Yellow Wind Sage begins using powerful Wind Attacks, activate the Wind Tamer to neutralize the boss and render it powerless.
Simply keep in mind that this is only temporary, so try to inflict as much damage as you can to recharge the Wind Tamer. Nevertheless, if you are able to maintain your timings, there should be no need for a second charge.
