The newest horror narrative game from Supermassive Games, titled The Casting of Frank Stone, takes place in the Dead By Daylight universe. The studio once again utilizes Unreal Engine to create stunning environments and characters. The PC version is comparable to their previous releases, but it lacks certain features, such as proper ultrawide support. Fortunately, Rose from the widescreen community has released a patch to address this issue in The Casting of Frank Stone.
Fixing the Casting of Frank Stone Ultrawide Issues
Rose’s patch effectively removes the black bars from The Casting of Frank Stone without compromising the vertical field of view in ultrawide and other resolutions.
- Head over to the following GitHub link
- Download the patch file by clicking the The.Casting.of.Frank.Stone.ultrawide.v1.0.zip under Assets
- Extract the contents of the zip file to the specified location within the game’s installation folder:
SMG037UE5\Binaries\Win64\
Simply follow these steps and the black bars will be eliminated from the presentation, ensuring a consistent FOV. There may be a slight delay during the initial boot as the patch is being installed.
Take a look at the outcome shown in the screenshot that Rose has shared.
The patch at 1920×1200, 3840×1080, and 3440×1440 was created and tested by Rose, to whom all credit goes. If you would like to show your support, you can do so at their Patreon or BuyMeACoffee pages. As of now, there have been no reported issues with the patch and it functions perfectly.
It is unlikely that the developers will add proper support in the near future, as their previous releases have also lacked support for ultrawide monitors. The use of black bars is a common occurrence, likely due to the cinematic presentation. It is possible that they want to maintain control over the viewing space to avoid any clipping or awkward animations. However, we do hope that they will consider adding support for ultrawide monitors in future titles, as the number of PC users using them continues to increase.
