The direct messaging feature on TikTok is widely utilized by millions daily for engaging with friends and followers on the platform. A common question among users is whether it is possible to delete a message after it has been sent.
If you’re anything like many TikTok users, you probably spend considerable time scrolling through your For You Page (FYP). Occasionally, you might stumble upon a video that instantly reminds you of a friend, prompting you to share it through direct messages (DMs).
But what happens if you accidentally send that video to the wrong person? It’s a familiar feeling of panic when you realize your mistake. So, is there a way to delete a direct message after it’s been sent?
TikTok continues to grow in popularity every day.
Can You Delete Messages on TikTok?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to ‘unsend’ a message on TikTok. When you long-press on a message in the inbox tab, you are provided with an option to ‘Delete’; however, this action does not remove the message from the recipient’s view.
If You Delete a TikTok Message, Does It Unsend It?
The TikTok support page clarifies that: “If you delete a chat or direct message, it only deletes it for you. The recipient can still see the messages.”
Currently, it is uncertain if TikTok will implement a feature allowing messages to be deleted on both ends in the future, but as of now, you can only remove messages from your own device.
