Epic Games has finally added the highly anticipated proximity chat feature to Fortnite, but with a catch. This feature is only available in certain game modes, allowing players to communicate and connect with friends and other players in a whole new way.

How to use Fortnite proximity chat

  1. Join in and create an Island in UEFN.
  2. Head to Island Settings and go to ‘Mode.’
  3. Expand the Voice Chat section.
  4. Activate the Proximity Chat.
  5. Ensure that the Full Volume and Falloff Distances are also set.
  6. Head to the Overview section and click ‘Create Island Backup’ to implement the modifications.

You can customize Proximity Chat settings on your creator-made islands.

According to the official blog post, players have the ability to adjust the volume range and the distance at which the volume decreases to zero in order to incorporate new social interactions into their Fortnite islands.

Furthermore, with proximity chat enabled on your island, a required HUD element will appear, displaying players who are currently speaking. Any violation of Epic’s Community Rules will be addressed through the moderation of proximity chat reports, which can be used to report, mute, and block players.

What is proximity chat?

The proximity chat feature enhances the gaming experience by enabling you to hear players in your vicinity, allowing for greater immersion and the ability to communicate with nearby teammates and opponents.

According to Epic Games, the feature is currently in Early Access, indicating that it is still being actively developed. They have also stated that they will take into account feedback and make improvements to the feature for its final release in the upcoming months.

Does Fortnite Battle Royale Support Proximity Chat?

Unfortunately, Fortnite Battle Royale does not include a proximity chat feature. Due to the nature of the game mode, it is unlikely that this feature will be added to Battle Royale and Zero Build. However, we will keep you informed if the developers decide to include it in future updates.

Currently, proximity chat can only be utilized on Creative Islands.
