Elden Ring’s Shadow of Erdtree features numerous unique enemies, each with their own distinct combat mechanics and special abilities. One such enemy is the Aging Untouchables of the Abyssal Woods.
The reason why The Untouchables are so named is that, regardless of the spell or weapon, you cannot harm them in the usual manner.
How to Defeat the Aging Untouchables in Elden Ring
- To utilize the Parry option, either use a shield or a weapon.
- To defeat the Aging Untouchables use Parry and then land a critical hit when they are vulnerable.
- The cue for the Parry is the Untouchable raising its wand and a yellow glowing line.
The Untouchables are more difficult to handle compared to other Bosses. This is due to two main factors – firstly, their ability to instantly eliminate you if they catch you, and secondly, their constant infliction of Madness.
Additionally, similar to Bosses and other enemies, it is impossible to inflict damage upon this entity, even with the strongest Incantations. These opponents are meant to be unbeatable, but there is one weakness – the awe-inspiring Parry and counter.
Choosing Your Parry Weapon
In Elden Ring, each weapon has its own unique Ashes of War, with only one of them offering a Parry option. The following options are considered the most effective for Parrying without the use of Ashes.
- Buckler shield: Considered the best parry shield
- Dagger: Quick Parry times, easier to use. Fewer eye-frames
Out of all the options, I highly recommend the Buckler Shield. It is easily obtainable, as it can be found in the Lands Between early on in the game. Other shields, such as the Rift Shield, also have the Parry option and can be used equally effectively. Ultimately, any weapon can be paired with a shield for the Parry option.
Get ready to use the Parry mechanic by equipping your shield or weapon and perhaps practicing it on a few straggler enemies along the way.
Tips for Combat with The Untouchables
The Aging Untouchables are undoubtedly one-of-a-kind and nearly indestructible. However, in order to counter their invulnerability with Parry, one must first focus on staying alive.
Some of the key things to watch out for are-
- The Instant Kill rush attack
- The continuous Madness Infliction
3.1 Instant Kill Attack
The Aging Untouchables are known for their quick and aggressive attacks. They have the ability to instantly teleport behind their target, knock them to the ground, and then use their wand to grab and drain their health, resulting in immediate death. It is important to note that their teleportation is instantaneous and cannot be avoided.
To counter this attack, simply pick yourself up and quickly roll away from the Untouchable. Continue to do this while dodging the Untouchable and eventually you will find the perfect timing to execute a flawless Parry.
3.2 Madness Infliction
The Aging Untouchables possess another distinct trait: the ongoing Madness infliction. This affliction persists until it afflicts the player’s character, causing heavy stagger and draining their HP and FP in Elden Ring.
4. Defeating the Untouchables
Parrying is the only way to defeat Aging Untouchables. I have attempted other methods, but they have proven ineffective. The key to successfully parrying is to time it when the Untouchables use their wand attack, which they typically do when they grab you.
The Untouchables’ wands emit a yellow glow just before they cast their grabbing spell, signaling an opportune moment to strike. Defend against their attack and then counter with your own. This will leave them open to a regular attack, allowing you to defeat them. Take advantage of this opening to eliminate the Untouchables.
Earning the Aged One’s Exultation talisman is the reward for killing the Aging Untouchables.
How to get to the Abyssal Woods?
To come across the renowned Untouchables, one must make a trip to their native territory, the Abyssal Woods.
In summary, the steps to reach the Abyssal Woods are outlined as follows-
- Begin your journey at the Shadow Keep located in the Scadu Altas region.
2. Search for the location of the hidden coffin that will take you to the Castle Watering Hole.
Ride south along the river until you reach the location on the map marked with the symbol for a wooded area.
4. Proceed to the Darklight Catacombs in that area and make your way to the final destination.
You will emerge from the Catacombs and arrive at the Abyssal Woods.
