Pokemon enthusiasts hold varying viewpoints on the idea of partners constantly remaining in their Poke Balls and which ones should be granted the freedom to roam.
The enduring enigma surrounding the Pokemon series is the fate of a Pokemon once they enter their Poke Ball. Are they frozen in time, confined to a small space, or do they have access to a miniature world filled with their favorite things?
Despite the fact that most Pokemon appear to be content with their Poke Balls, there are a few that dislike them, including Ash’s Pikachu who is perhaps the most well-known example. Therefore, during his travels around the world, Ash allows Pikachu to join him on his adventures.
However, fans on Pokemon Reddit are posing the question: what if Ash’s first Pokemon had been a Wailord instead of a Pikachu? Would he have been able to keep the massive creature in its Poke Ball, given that it may not have wanted to stay there? This hypothetical scenario raises the question of whether trainers in the Pokemon world have enough compassion and love to keep their Pokemon confined in their Poke Balls.
“It would be difficult to allow Metagross, Dhelmise, and especially Steelix to roam freely,”one user commented. “Mawile is usually free to roam, while Empoleon and Magneton have more freedom to do as they please. However, the others either have to stay in their pokeballs or remain at home. I apologize, but Steelix would likely cause damage to the walkways or surrounding trees and fields just by walking.”
One user expressed, “I would constantly ride on Dragonite, yet I would not feel comfortable bringing it into stores or restaurants.”Another person wrote, “My Wailord, who serves as my emotional support, will always be by my side.”
Another aspect to take into account is the environment, as one user humorously pointed out: “Even Water Pokemon get confined inside the ball. It’s quite undignified to watch a Lanturn struggle to move across the carpet with a slow bellyflop.”
The recent Pokemon games allow players greater flexibility in choosing which little friends to bring along on their journey. While this is acceptable in the context of the game, players are not as inclined to let their Skarmory out for exercise within the confines of their own homes.
