Hunter x Hunter Chapter 401 Unveils True Motives

The cover of Hunter x Hunter chapter 401 prominently showcases Morena Prudo alongside the Black Whale.

Chapter 401 kicks off with Kurapika, Longhi, and their associates convening in room numbered 1014 on the tenth day of their gathering.

They initiate a discussion regarding the safety of Fifth Prince Tubeppa Hui Guo Rou amid the rising tensions within the kingdom. Longhi confesses her ineffectiveness in combat scenarios, while Kurapika takes a stand, drawing his gun and expressing his resolve to use it if the situation necessitates.

Longhi elaborates on the complexities of contracts, explaining how they can restrict individuals’ abilities and actions. She must fully disclose all details before securing someone’s signature. Additionally, she promises Kurapika certain powers should he agree to join her.

Curious about Longhi’s true intentions, Kurapika confronts her. In an unexpected twist, Longhi reveals that she is the daughter of Beyond Netero, sharing that Beyond conceived her as part of a scheme to infiltrate the Kakin Royal Family. She was raised knowing she was the daughter of a soldier, a process that was repeated with others who later took roles as royal guards and aides to the Princes.

While most of Beyond’s offspring lacked knowledge about their origins, Longhi was made aware by her adoptive parents and recognized her Nen abilities from a young age.

Subsequently, Hunter x Hunter chapter 401 reveals that Beyond imposed a curse on his twenty children, compelling them to eliminate specific targets, particularly the Kakin Princes, upon their deaths, marking them as his sacrifices. Beyond’s ultimate goal is for one of his children, whom Longhi suspects to be a Prince, to prevail.

However, she clarifies that this Prince is not Benjamin. Oito explains that to qualify for the Succession Contest, one must be the legitimate child of Nasubi’s wife, yet they do not have to share blood ties with Nasubi.

The chapter also explores the contract established between Kurapika and Tubeppa, which prohibits interference with each other’s Princes, Queens, or Soldiers. This agreement extends automatically if Tubeppa’s representative arrives in room 1014 by 9 o’clock next Sunday. Breaking the contract results in a punishment of one week’s enforced Zetsu.

Now, Kurapika and Longhi are tasked with locating Beyond’s child before either Tubeppa withdraws from the contest or only two Princes remain. Longhi is particularly adamant about eliminating Beyond’s child. After her departure, Kurapika informs the members of the Nen class that the peace talks have collapsed, although Furykov remains dubious.

The chapter concludes with the appearance of Beyond and Kanzai, with the former expressing a wish to meet someone.
