On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Yoshihiro Togashi, the author and illustrator, announced through his personal X (formerly Twitter) account that Hunter x Hunter chapter 402 and chapter 403 have been officially finished. These are the first chapters he has completed for the series in over a year, with chapter 401 being confirmed as completed in March 2023.
It has been confirmed that Togashi is currently working on additional manga chapters, which will be released after the completion of Hunter x Hunter chapter 402 and chapter 403. This update comes shortly after the announcement of the manga’s 38th volume, set to be released in September 2024, approximately two years after the release of the 37th compilation volume.
Hunter x Hunter Updates and Possible Return
Despite the completion of Hunter x Hunter chapter 402 and chapter 403, the most promising aspect is that it hints at the possibility of the manga returning to serialization in the near future. This is supported by Shueisha’s previous release of 10 consecutive chapters after Togashi’s announcement of the completion of the tenth and final chapter through X.
Despite being several chapters away from reaching the same milestone, Togashi’s recent updates after confirming the completion of chapters 402 and 403 have been highly promising. Just 15 hours later, Togashi revealed that he had already completed page 8 of the manuscript for chapter 404. He also shared a sketch of Chimera Ant arc villain Meruem, which he had created while at his desk.
Despite Togashi’s history of health issues, he appears to be in good enough condition to make significant headway in creating new chapters. This could mean that the series’ return to Weekly Shonen Jump is closer than fans may think. However, there is always the possibility of sudden and unexpected flare ups of back pain that could potentially slow down this exceptional progress.
Togashi has been facing health issues related to severe back pain, which was reportedly so debilitating that he was unable to sit in a chair for a period of two years. He has openly shared that the pain was so intense that even everyday tasks like using the bathroom became a challenge for him. While fans eagerly await the release of Hunter x Hunter chapters 402 & 403, it is important for Togashi to prioritize his health above all else.
In March 1998, Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. As of July 2022, the series has sold over 84 million copies, solidifying its place as one of the top-selling manga series of all time. Togashi is also recognized for his Yu Yu Hakusho manga series, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 1990 and concluded in July 1994.
