The much-anticipated Volume 38 of Hunter x Hunter was officially released by Shueisha on September 4th, 2024. This volume includes 10 chapters, ranging from chapter 391 to the latest chapter 400, first published in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2022.
Immediately upon its release, it soared to the top of the Shoseki Manga Rankings, reflecting daily manga volume sales, on September 5, 2024. Hunter x Hunter took the lead, with Spy x Family and Ruti Dragon trailing behind.
This series continued its remarkable success by securing the top spot in sales on September 5th as well. The remarkable two-day sales numbers exemplify the series’ adoration both in Japan and globally.

Titled ‘Founding,’ Volume 38 of Hunter x Hunter features the beloved protagonist, Gon Freecss, on its cover. A special trailer had been released by Shueisha to generate excitement for the volume, giving glimpses into what readers can expect.
This volume continues the ‘Succession Contest Arc,’ where the fourteen princes of the Kakin Empire battle fiercely for the throne. The intense contest unfolds aboard the empire’s ship, ‘Black Whale.’
Kurapika takes on the role of bodyguard for the youngest prince, determined to protect the owner of the last ‘Scarlet Eyes.’ However, he soon finds himself embroiled in a perilous survival journey populated by dangerous mafias, provisional hunters, and the infamous Phantom Troupe.

Hunter x Hunter has become notorious not only for its captivating storyline but also for its extended hiatuses. The manga first went on its longest break in 2018 due to Yoshihiro Togashi’s health issues. After a 4-year hiatus, it resumed with chapter 400 on December 26, 2022, before entering another break.
Fans can rest assured; this hiatus is expected to be shorter. Shueisha has confirmed that the series will recommence in Weekly Shōnen Jump with chapter 401 on October 7, 2024.
While the specific number of chapters has yet to be detailed, this time around, the manga is set to follow its own unique release schedule rather than adhering to a weekly timetable. Shueisha has indicated it is collaborating with the author to support the new schedule.
