Hwang Jae-gyun’s Reflective Post Sparks Speculation
On January 8, Hwang Jae-gyun took to his social media account to share a thought-provoking message, simply captioned “2025.” This post was accompanied by the evocative music of “The Phoenix” from the American rock band Fall Out Boy.
The lyrics of the song resonate with powerful themes, featuring lines such as, “Put on your war paint / Hey young blood, doesn’t it feel / Like our time is running out / I’m gonna change you like a remix / Then I’ll raise you like a phoenix.” These impactful phrases have drawn significant attention, particularly given their potential implications regarding Hwang’s emotional state following recent life changes.
A New Chapter After Divorce
This social media update marks Hwang Jae-gyun’s first public statement since his divorce from the singer Jiyeon, which was finalized in November of the previous year. Their relationship had initially appeared promising, with the couple frequently sharing snapshots of their life as newlyweds after tying the knot in 2022. However, the tide turned when rumors of separation emerged by June 2024.
After months of speculation, both Hwang and Jiyeon chose to remain tight-lipped until October 2024, when they officially acknowledged their divorce. During this announcement, Jiyeon’s legal representative emphasized that “the couple could not overcome their differences and, after a period of separation, agreed to divorce. They have filed for divorce mediation at the Seoul Family Court to proceed with the process.”
Future Aspirations
In her statement, Jiyeon expressed a desire for understanding, mentioning, “We have mutually agreed to undergo the divorce mediation process. I ask for your understanding for not being able to address this matter promptly. I will strive to greet you in a better light in the future.” This sentiment underscores a hopeful outlook despite the challenges faced.
