Hwang Jung-eum Opens Up About Her Post-Divorce Struggles

In the latest episode of SBS Plus and E Channel’s popular variety show “Because I’m Solo,” aired on December 17, actress Hwang Jung-eum candidly discussed the challenges she has faced following her divorce.

Facing Sleep Disturbances

During the program, Hwang visited a psychological counseling center to address her insomnia. She shared, “I used to enjoy restful nights, but recently, although I can drift off to sleep easily, I frequently awaken in the middle of the night. This disturbing pattern has been incredibly exhausting, leaving me feeling drained and unfocused.” She attributes these sleep issues to the emotional toll of her bereavement.

Empathy Among Peers

Chae Rim, another guest on the show, resonated with Hwang’s experiences, recounting her own battles with sleeplessness. “There were times I couldn’t sleep at all, especially after filming. I craved rest but just couldn’t catch a break,” she remarked. Chae Rim humorously reflected on a particularly alarming experience: “One day, I was just getting ready to leave when I suddenly realized I was foaming at the mouth; I had mistakenly used foam cleanser as toothpaste!”

Hwang’s Journey with Sleep Aids

Hwang Jung-eum then spoke about her introduction to sleeping medications. “These days, I feel more emotional and sensitive. In my earlier years, I rarely cried, but now, with so many supportive people around me, it happens more often,” she explained. “Throughout my career, I avoided sleeping pills, but in November 2023, my sleep quality drastically dipped, pushing me to seek medication.” Thankfully, she reassured fans, stating, “Now I sleep profoundly; I fall asleep the moment my head hits the pillow.”

A Personal Timeline

Hwang married former professional golfer Lee Young-don in 2016, and together they have two sons. However, after initiating divorce mediation in 2020 and experiencing a brief reconciliation, they confirmed in February of this year that they were proceeding with divorce once again.

Adding to the public intrigue, Hwang previously revealed Lee’s infidelity on social media, which led to significant controversy. This situation intensified as she publicly named a non-celebrity woman as the alleged mistress, resulting in defamation accusations and ongoing legal issues.
