HYBE Accused of Restricting SEVENTEEN’s DK from Discussing Palestine

Following NCT’s Taeyong’s post about “boycotting”, fans globally are now urging their K-pop idols to use their platform and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine. The death toll continues to rise daily due to attacks from Israel.

In particular, hashtags calling for idols to voice their opinions have gained popularity on social media, along with hashtags criticizing companies that have shown support for Israel, such as #HYBEDivestfromZionism.

The HYBE America CEO’s open support for Israel is well-known, resulting in a heightened level of opposition towards both HYBE and its idols.

During a recent livestream session, SEVENTEEN member DK, who is signed under HYBE subsidiary Pledis, received multiple comments regarding the crisis in Palestine. Despite this, he is not an exception to other artists who have faced similar requests to speak up about the issue.

Moreover, numerous comments urged the male idol to show support by raising his hand if he is unable to address the issue. They stated, “Dokyeom (full for DK), CARATs in Palestine are currently facing danger. Are you informed about this and standing in solidarity with Palestine? If you are unable to speak on this, please show ✋🏻 instead.”

During the broadcast, DK suddenly raised his hand, causing speculation that he was unable to discuss the matter at hand and was being silenced by his agency.

Despite this, numerous netizens maintain the belief that this speculation is far-fetched. This is largely due to the fact that the comment was written in broken Korean, presumably translated inaccurately using a translating tool. As a result, a native Korean speaker would likely interpret the phrase “If you can’t talk about this”as meaning “If not worded properly”.

Moreover, DK’s livestream was temporarily taken down, but was eventually reuploaded with certain scenes edited out. Although the potential spoiler was omitted, the footage of DK raising his hand remained, leading many to speculate that it was simply a coincidence.

Despite the removal of videos of DK raising his hand (where he allegedly confirmed that HYBE artists are being “silenced”) from SNS platforms like X, there are still netizens who believe in the truth of the silencing claims. This is happening simultaneously with the removal of the videos.

The source of the information is from Krb, who shared a link from X’s Twitter account with the status update 1797294338600525858.
