HYBE, Artists Rumored to Be Involved in Controversial Cult — Label Releases Official Statement

Rumors of HYBE and its artists being linked to a particular pseudo-religion are circulating on the internet.

Korean internet users have provided the following “proofs”.

Speculation arose on April 28 when K-Netz on online communities asserted a connection between HYBE and Dahn World, a “pseudo-religion”established by Lee Seung Heon.

The person responsible for creating Global Cyber University is also the one who founded it, a school that has been attended and promoted by members of both BTS and TXT.

Despite being marketed as a meditation group, Dahn World has often been labeled as a cult by many due to its similarities to a religious organization, with its belief that “man and god are one.”

Therefore, many HYBE artists have incorporated the company’s principles and attitudes into their music, as demonstrated in GFriend’s “Mago,”a song that embraces a dark and witch-like concept.

The cult of Dahn World worships “Mago,”the goddess of their universe. The recent disbandment of GFriend and debut of LE SSERAFIM align with the doctrines of this cult, as they were predicted to occur after a period of excavation.

Specifically, both teams from Source Music disbanded and made their debut in May, which happened to align with the Walpurgis Night.

GFriend concluded their career with a witch concept, a stark departure from their original innocent image. Meanwhile, their affiliated label formed a new group inspired by the term “seraphim”(angels), possibly alluding to the cult’s clandestine plans.

Upon further examination, the MVs of BTS and NewJeans were also found to contain elements that hinted at their connection to the group through music, design, clothing, and accessories.

HYBE Denies Allegations and Plans to Pursue Legal Action

When news of this rumor spread among both Koreans and international fandoms, HYBE promptly and firmly addressed it, stating:

  • “The suspicions raised are completely unfounded. We will take legal action against violations of artists’ rights and interests.”

Amidst rumors of being involved in a cult and facing accusations of hoarding albums, Big Hit Music, the agency of BTS, firmly denied any involvement, releasing the following statement:

“Hello. This is Big Hit Music.

We would like to inform you of our company’s legal response to protect BTS’s rights and interests.

Recently, several organized movements aimed at defaming and slandering BTS have been detected. At the same time, malicious slander, creating rumors, spreading false information, and indiscriminate insults and ridicule toward artists are going too far.

We believe that this matter is a serious infringement on the artist’s reputation, and in addition to the existing regular legal action, we plan to respond sternly by appointing a separate law firm.

Currently, malicious posts directed at artists are being collected as evidence through real-time monitoring and collection. We would like to inform you that we will respond strongly to the suspects by applying the principle of leniency and zero tolerance without agreement.”
