HYBE Report Reveals BLACKPINK’s Shift to Romance, Lisa’s Crazy Horse Performance Impacts Group’s Reputation

Controversial Leaked Report Unveils Dark Secrets of HYBE Entertainment

On November 1st, 2023 (KST), the K-pop community was rocked by the leak of a 2,000-page internal report from HYBE, shared across multiple platforms. This document, which was initially revealed by the National Assembly of South Korea, contains serious allegations concerning the collection of information and the adverse evaluation of various K-pop groups, positioning HYBE as the “number one enemy”among fandoms due to its purportedly defamatory content.

Targeted Groups and Internal Evaluations

The report names several rival groups, including BLACKPINK, aespa, IVE, and NMIXX, alongside their own artists such as BTS, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, and TXT. Each of these groups has been subjected to personal assessments that are claimed to have impacted their public image negatively.

A particularly contentious part of the report centers on BLACKPINK. Allegedly, HYBE has suggested that the members prioritize their romantic lives over their professional commitments. The fallout from Lisa’s controversial dance performance at the Crazy Horse show in Paris has further tarnished the group’s reputation, as fans voiced their concerns regarding the inconsistency with BLACKPINK’s established image.

Although Lisa intended to celebrate her empowerment through this performance, the reaction from the fanbase was mixed, with many feeling that her actions conflicted with the group’s early branding. Additionally, as the other members showed their support for Lisa during this event, it contributed to the overall image degradation of BLACKPINK.

Furthermore, the internal report claims that BLACKPINK has excessively focused on personal relationships, stating, “This group concentrates more on love affairs than any other group.”

Fandom Dynamics and Rivalries

HYBE’s investigations have also highlighted intense rivalries within BLACKPINK’s fanbase, particularly concerning high-profile brand ambassador roles. The report indicates a divide where certain fans of individual members are more dedicated than those who support the entire group. Additionally, it alleges that a past substance abuse scandal involving Rosé may have been instigated by fans of Jisoo in a sabotage attempt.

LE SSERAFIM’s Struggles and Management Issues

The report does not solely target competitors; it also delves into internal challenges faced by HYBE’s own group, LE SSERAFIM. It admits to shortcomings in the girls’ training, even revealing that management resorted to lip-syncing during performances to cover up these deficiencies. Following a disastrous showing at Coachella 2024, LE SSERAFIM was branded the “most disliked girl group in K-pop,”drawing public criticism for their lack of preparation and proficiency.

Backlash Against HYBE’s Management

This leaked report has further fueled discontent among fandoms associated with BTS and SEVENTEEN, who have previously protested against what they described as “inhumane”management strategies undermining the success of these boy groups. The allegations within the document reveal a stark and troubling picture of one of Korea’s leading entertainment companies, depicting Bang Si Hyuk, the CEO, as a “villain who destroys the noble values of K-pop.”
