Recently, BTS fans (commonly known as ARMYs), especially those from international audiences, have been trending the hashtag “Min Hee-jin Out” following Jungkook’s update that seemingly expresses support for NewJeans.
This hashtag has garnered significant attention and eventually caught the notice of HYBE employees.
This is evident through updates shared on Blind, an exclusive community for office workers that requires verification via company emails.
Specifically, one employee commented, “Today, a 6-month-old cancer went down in Ami Silt,” which received support from fellow colleagues within the HYBE company.
The statement translates roughly to “ARMYs’ hashtag removed the cancer that I have had for the past 6 months,” and includes a wordplay where “암이 내려가” humorously twists “아미” (ARMY) into “암이” (cancer).
This suggests that HYBE employees are making a connection between BTS’s fandom name and a disease, all within a context of wordplay.
Such comments, however, have sparked considerable backlash from netizens.
Here are some reactions from the public:
- Wow, now they are referring to fans as cancer.
- Does HYBE specifically hire bullies to work for the company, because what is this?
- HYBE is the cancer of K-pop.
- The very existence of HYBE is troubling.
- What on earth is happening at that company? Why are the employees so toxic?
- Every time I see HYBE employees, I am amazed at how they align with the company.
